Organizations Filed Purposes: OUR MISSION IS TO FURTHER THE COMPASSIONATE, SAFE, AND (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)RESPONSIBLE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANIMALS AND PEOPLE.

ANIMAL CARE PROGRAM: IN FY20, WE CARED FOR 5,875 ANIMALS IN OUR FACILITY, CREATED 3,277 NEW FAMILIES, AND REUNITED 1,460 FAMILIES. AT LARIMER HUMANE SOCIETY, 82% OF STRAY DOGS AND 20% OF STRAY CATS REUNITED WITH THEIR FAMILIES. NATIONALLY THESE RATES ARE 37% AND 5%. DURING THIS YEAR, 560 ANIMALS WERE CARED FOR BY FOSTER FAMILIES AND 594 ANIMALS WERE BROUGHT TO LARIMER HUMANE SOCIETY FROM OTHER COMMUNITIES FOR A SECOND CHANCE WITH A NEW FAMILY. OUR CLIENT SERVICES STAFF ANSWERED 14,894 CALLS FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS, DIRECTING THEM TO THE SUPPORT BEST SUITED FOR THEIR SITUATION OR NEEDS. WE ENROLLED 301 ANIMALS IN OUR PETS NEEDING PATIENCE PROGRAM TO PROVIDE THEM EXTRA ENRICHMENT AND HELP FIND THE PERFECT NEW FAMILY AND CARED FOR 77 PETS IN NEED OF HOUSING, WHEN THEIR OWNERS WERE UNABLE TO CARE FOR THEM DUE TO EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. WE CELEBRATED AN AVERAGE LENGTH OF STAY OF 13.21 DAYS (SHORTER LENGTHS OF STAYS HELP ANIMALS STAY HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER, AND SIGNIFY THEY ARE MOVING INTO NEW FAMILIES FASTER.) THE ANIMAL CARE DEPARTMENT PROVIDED TWICE-DAILY STROLLS TO OUR CANINE RESIDENTS, TOTALING 19,939 WALKS!THIS YEAR, WE LAUNCHED THE SAFEHOUSE SAFEKEEP PROGRAM FOR CLIENTS OF CROSSROADS SAFEHOUSE WHO NEED TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR THEIR PETS. PETS ARE PROVIDED WITH SAFE HOUSING AND LOVING CARE AT LARIMER HUMANE SOCIETY, AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. WE BEGAN A NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ASPCA RELOCATION PROGRAM. THROUGH CAREFUL PAIRINGS, THE ASPCA MATCHES SOURCE AND DESTINATION SHELTERS, TRANSFERRING ANIMALS FROM OVERPOPULATED COMMUNITIES TO PLACES WHERE ANIMALS HAVE THE BEST CHANCE AT FINDING A FOREVER FAMILY. WE SUPPORTED BOTH THE COLORADO PET PANTRY AND ANIMAL FRIENDS ALLIANCE'S KIBBLE SUPPLY PET FOOD PANTRY WITH FOOD AND SUPPLY DONATIONS TO HELP OWNERS THROUGH DIFFICULT TIMES. IN FY20, WE PROVIDED 11 CLIENTS WITH EMERGENCY FOOD, ENSURING THAT FOOD AND SUPPLY INSECURITY DID NOT RESULT IN THE RELINQUISHMENT OF A PET. THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS IMPACTED US IN SEVERAL WAYS FROM MARCH 16 TO JUNE 30, THE NUMBER OF ANIMALS CARED FOR DROPPED BY 31% OVER THE SAME TIME IN 2019 AS MORE FAMILIES STAYED HOME. AND WE SPENT MORE THAN $5,000 IN ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES AND MODIFICATIONS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING TO ADDRESS EMPLOYEE AND CLIENT SAFETY, AND ENSURE OUR WORK FOR THE ANIMALS CONTINUED.

ANIMAL PROTECTION & CONTROL: IN FY20 OUR OFFICERS RESPONDED TO 18,560 CALLS FOR SERVICE, HELPING TO KEEP ANIMALS AND PEOPLE ACROSS OUR COMMUNITY SAFE. OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A 202% INCREASE IN CALLS FOR AGGRESSIVE STRAY ANIMALS OVER FY19, REPRESENTING 19% OF TOTAL CALLS RELATED TO STRAY ANIMALS VERSUS ONLY 6% OF STRAY ANIMAL CALLS IN FY19. WE FORMALIZED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TOWN OF WINDSOR TO HOUSE STRAY ANIMALS AT LARIMER HUMANE SOCIETY. SIX OF OUR ANIMAL PROTECTION & CONTROL OFFICERS ARE COMMISSIONED BUREAU OF ANIMAL PROTECTION AGENTS, ALLOWING THEM TO WORK WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TO ENFORCE STATE ANIMAL CRUELTY AND DANGEROUS DOG STATUTES. THIS ABILITY PROVIDES ADDITIONAL TOOLS TO HELP KEEP ANIMALS SAFE. THROUGHOUT FY20, OUR OFFICERS HANDLED SEVEN CASES OF ANIMAL CRUELTY AND FIVE CASES INVOLVING DANGEROUS ANIMALS UNDER THESE STATE STATUTES.

VETERINARY SERVICES: IN FY20 WE PROVIDED BASIC HEALTH PROTECTION TO OUR ANIMALS WITH 8,812 VACCINATIONS, 1,890 SPAY/NEUTER, DENTAL AND OTHER SURGERIES PERFORMED BY OUR VETERINARY SERVICES TEAM AND SUPERVISED CSU VETERINARY STUDENTS. WE IMPLEMENTED A HOUSE SOILING DIVERSION PROGRAM FOR CATS, SUPPORTING OWNERS WHO ARE CONSIDERING SURRENDERING THEIR CATS FOR HOUSE SOILING. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, WE ARE TESTING THE CAT FOR UNDERLYING MEDICAL CONDITIONS, AND PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO THE OWNER TO HELP THEM RESOLVE THE ISSUE - WHETHER MEDICAL OR BEHAVIORAL TO PRESERVE THE BOND WITH THEIR CAT.IN MARCH AS COVID SPREAD, WE TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED OUR EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS WITH COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY'S VETERINARY TEACHING SCHOOL AND FRONT RANGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE'S VETERINARY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM AS THEY MOVED TO VIRTUAL LEARNING FORMATS FOR THEIR STUDENTS.
