Organizations Filed Purposes:
WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SCHOOLS, BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITY LEADERS, FAMILIES AND YOUTH TO REDUCE BULLYING AND TO FOSTER A PEER STANCE (POSITIVE, ENCOURAGING, EMPATHETIC, RESPECTFUL + KIND)
WE ACCOMPLISH OUR MISSION THROUGH PREVENTION EDUCATION SERVICES, ADVOCACY FROM A POLICY LEVEL, AS WELL AS ADVOCATING FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH EFFORTS. THE PANDEMIC POSED MANY CHALLENGES, YET WE WERE ABLE TO PURSUE OUR MISSION IN MEANINGFUL WAYS. IN 2020, WE PROVIDED 276 HOURS OF PREVENTION EDUCATION SERVICES TO SCHOOLS, SERVICE GROUPS, YOUTH LEADERS, AND A RECREATION DISTRICT. THOSE SERVICES REACHED CITIES IN FOUR WESTERN COLORADO COUNTIES. WE RESPONDED TO 16 BULLYING INCIDENT REPORTS PROVIDING OVER 160 HOURS OF DIRECT FAMILY SUPPORTS DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS AND COUNTLESS EVENING AND WEEKEND HOURS UNDOCUMENTED/UNPAID BY STAFF. MEMBERS OF THE ORGANIZATION SPENT OVER 200 HOURS ADVOCATING ON BEHALF OF TARGETED CHILDREN, CHILDREN PERFORMING ACTS OF BULLYING, AND THEIR FAMILIES AND EDUCATORS. THIS INCLUDED MEETING WITH STATE LEGISLATORS AND FAMILIES IN SUPPORT OF JACK'S LAW.
ALIGN WITH KIND (AWK) IS OUR YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM THAT WAS OFFICIALLY KICKED OFF IN 2019 AND SIGNIFICANTLY EXPANDED IN 2020. ALIGN WITH KIND IS NOW IN 9 SCHOOLS BETWEEN TWO SCHOOL DISTRICTS, SERVING 6 COMMUNITIES; MONTROSE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT SERVES APPROXIMATELY 1500 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, AND DELTA COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT SERVES APPROXIMATELY 1400 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE PROGRAM CONTINUES TO FOCUS ON SHIFTING A CRUEL PEER CULTURE TO A KINDER ONE; MAKING KINDNESS COOL AGAIN, AND EMPOWERING STUDENTS' VOICES.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH WAS A SIGNIFICANT PART OF OUR WORK AS OUR NATION EMBARKED UPON UNPRECEDENTED TIMES WITH COVID-19. WE SHIFTED FROM BUILDING AWARENESS TO BEING OF SERVICE TO THE NEEDS OF FAMILIES, STUDENTS, AND EDUCATORS WHO WERE CHALLENGED BY THE PANDEMIC. WE DELIVERED A TOTAL OF 587 HOURS OF OUTREACH, 399 WERE IN DIRECT RESPONSE TO THE CHALLENGES OF COVID. DURING THAT TIME, WE EMBARKED ON ACTIVITIES THAT FOCUSED ON BUILDING A SAFE AND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL, PUTTING THE "I BACK IN KIND." WE RAISED AWARENESS ABOUT THE NEED FOR BULLYING PREVENTION AND INTERVENTIONS, WE RAISED AWARENESS ABOUT CYBERBULLYING, WE CONNECTED THE DOTS BETWEEN MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND BULLYING, AND WE CREATED PARTNERSHIPS WITH BUSINESS OWNERS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND YOUTH PROVIDERS TO SUPPORT OUR INTERVENTION EFFORTS (FOR THE TARGET, THE WITNESS, AND THE ONE WHO BULLIES).
