Make Colorado a "No Barriers" city and invite America's wounded troups to live in a community where they can thrive by strengthening our services by creating programs that remove barriers in the city's infrastructure.
Mission No Barriers - Included 2 weeks of an outdoor experience in Colorado for veterans with disabilities. The purpose was to introduce veterans to Western Colorado and to get feedback from disabled vets that improves our community. Our goal is to make Montrose a veteran friendly community by removing barriers that inhibit a disabled veterans access to recreation and normal everyday tasks.
Programs - include weekly coffe events, spouses group therapy sessions, spouses luncheons, and a safe place to gather for social events. Veterans drop by to do puzzles, talk to other veterans, and get help with making sure that they have access to all benefits afford to them. The building purchased in 2018 has been a central hub for all veterans to get access to any help that they can't access themselves. The programs implimented are a central part of this outreach process.
Freedom Sings USA Colorado - this program involved the use of music as therapy for PTSD and other issues. This also involved the Air Force Band on July 3rd playing all American music. Both of these involve the community so that everyone is reminded that Vets are not forgotten.
