THE FOUNDATION'S MISSION IS TO SUPPORT INNOVATION, STUDENT SUCCESS, AND LIFELONG LEARNING.
THE DISTRICT 214 EDUCATION FOUNDATION SUPPORTS INNOVATION, STUDENT SUCCESS AND LIFELONG LEARNING BEYOND THE LIMITATIONS OF CONVENTIONAL FUNDING FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION. WE BELIEVE STRONG SCHOOLS BUILD STRONG COMMUNITIES, BUT ALSO BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS AND PARTNERSHIPS TO ENSURE THAT LEARNERS WITHIN OUR SCHOOLS ARE PREPARED FOR COLLEGE, CAREER, AND LIFE SUCCESS. THE FOUNDATION WORKS TO SECURE AND PAIR FUNDING AND RESOURCES WITH NEEDS, CONTINUALLY EVALUATING THE NEEDS WITHIN DISTRICT 214 SCHOOLS AND THE EVOLVING PRIORITIES WITHIN EDUCATION. COLLECTIVELY, FOUNDATION TRUSTEES SERVE AS AMBASSADORS OF OUR MISSION, AND THE BOARD AND FOUNDATION STAFF WORK WITH SCHOOLS TO BOLSTER RELATIONSHIPS AND CREATE INNOVATIVE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES AND SHAPE NEW PROGRAMS THAT ENSURE COLLEGE, CAREER AND LIFE READINESS. AN INVESTMENT IN THE FOUNDATION IS AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE OF OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY.
Scholarships:WORKING WITH INDIVIDUAL DONORS AND ORGANIZATIONS, THE DISTRICT 214 EDUCATION FOUNDATION CREATED ADDITIONAL AWARD OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS' POSTSECONDARY SUCCESS, AWARDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO STUDENTS IN AREAS INCLUDING GIRLS ENTERING STEM AND LAW CAREERS; THOSE DEMONSTATING COLLEGE, CAREER AND LIFE READINESS; THOSE EXCELLING IN ATHLETICS; THOSE DEMONSTRATING ACHIEVEMENT THROUGHOUT SCHOOL ACADEMICALLY AND THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM AND CO-CURRICULAR INVOLVEMENT, AND MORE. A NEW AWARD FOR STUDENTS PURSUING THE TRADES IN TWO-YEAR COLLEGES WAS ADDED, RESULTING IN CRITICAL, NEARLY FULL-RIDE FUNDING FOR SELECT STUDENTS; AND FOR THE FIRST TIME, NINE STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICTS ADULT EDUCATION AND FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM WERE AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING TO COVER EVERYTHING FROM FIRST-YEAR COMMUNITY COLLEGE COURESWORK TO CITIZENSHIP TESTING AND GED FEES. THE FOUNDATION ALSO AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE PURPOSE OF PRIVATE MUSIC INSTRUCTION AND AP TESTING FEES. THE NUMBER OF AWARDS CONTINUES TO GROW AS RELATIONSHIPS ARE BUILT WITH DONORS.
Grants:BY LEVERAGING THE FOUNDATION'S DISTRICT-WIDE 501(c)(3) STATUS, THE FOUNDATION EMPOWERED A WIDE VARIETY OF INNOVATIVE CURRICULUM AND LIFE-CHANGING INITIATIVES ACROSS ALL SIX COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOLS. SOME OF THESE ADDRESSED IN PARTICULAR FUTURE DISTRICT 214 STUDENTS, WITH A GOAL OF READYING OUR STUDENTS FOR SUCCESS BEFORE THEY ENTER OUR DOORS-WHICH BUILDS THE CAPACITY FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER SUCCESS. Some of the grants helped provide funding and resources for the following efforts: a middle school after-school STEM outreach program at Buffalo Grove High School (providing teacher salary and student program supplies), support to district NGE programs at five high schools for staff time in the delivery of the program to middle school students after school, (Miss Maker Fair) a student-run STEM outreach event to elementary school girls in the District 214 service area, supplies for robotics team robot builds, support for transportation for the Wildstangs First Robotics Team to competitions, native plant restoration for agriculture and environmental science students along Salt Creek and Rolling Meadows High School, and support to district NGE programs at five high schools for staff time in the delivery of the program to middle school students after school.
