Organizations Filed Purposes: THE BARRINGTON AREA COUNCIL ON AGING, INC. (BACOA) WAS INCORPORATED OCTOBER 1, 1984 AS A NONPROFIT CORPORATION UNDER THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS. BACOA'S MISSION IS TO PROMOTE VIBRANT, HEALTHY AGING BY PROVIDING INFORMATION, ADVICE AND COUNSEL, EDUCATION AND SUPPORT TO ADULTS, FAMILIES AND CAREGIVERS. BACOA'S SOCIAL, NONCLINICAL PROGRAMS HELP OLDER ADULTS FIND ANSWERS OR SUPPORT AS THEIR NEEDS EVOLVE. THANKS TO STRONG COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION, BACOA IS ABLE TO PROVIDE SERVICES SUCH AS MEALS WITH WHEELS, COUNSELING ON INSURANCE AND GOVERNMENT BENEFITS, CAREGIVER SUPPORT, INFORMATION AND RESOURCES, SUPPORT GROUPS, SOCIAL PROGRAMS AND MUCH MORE FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT. BACOA IS SUPPORTED PRIMARILY THROUGH DONOR CONTRIBUTIONS, LOCAL GOVERNMENT GRANTS, AND UNITED WAY.

THE BARRINGTON AREA COUNCIL ON AGING PROMOTES VIBRANT, HEALTHY AGING BY PROVIDING INFORMATION, ADVICE AND COUNSEL, EDUCATION AND SUPPORT TO ADULTS, CAREGIVERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

BACOA OFFERS A SERIES OF SUPPORT SERVICES FOR THOSE NEEDING CARE, CAREGIVERS, OR BOTH. SERVICES INCLUDE SUPPORT GROUPS FOR ALZHEIMER'S, CAREGIVERS AND LOW VISION. ADDITIONALLY, BACOA PROVIDES SUPPORT PROGRAMS TO ENABLE THE HEALTH-CHALLENGED AND THEIR CARE PARTNERS' BETTER METHODS TO COPE WITH THE STRESS OF ILLNESS, INCLUDING "A DAY OUT" RESPITE PROGRAM AND MEMORY CARE. BACOA ALSO HAS CERTIFIED SENIOR HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM COUNSELORS AND VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST OLDER ADULTS AND FAMILY CAREGIVERS WITH ISSUES RELATED TO TO MEDICARE AND OTHER GOVERNMENT SERVICES. CLIENTS NEEDING ASSISTANCE WITH MEDICAL ISSUES OR SERVICE COORDINATION CAN RELY ON BACOA'S CRITICAL CARE PROGRAMMING TO HELP THEM WITH NEEDS RANGING FROM FULL GOVERNMENT SERVICE AND MEDICAL COORDINATION TO SIMPLE TRANSPORTATION.

BACOA'S MEALS WITH WHEELS PROGRAM ENSURES MORE THAN 4,000 NUTRITIOUS MEALS ARE ANNUALLY SERVED TO BARRINGTON AREA RESIDENTS UNABLE TO PREPARE MEALS FOR THEMSELVES EITHER BECAUSE OF POOR HEALTH OR LOW INCOME.

STUDIES HAVE DEMONSTRATED THAT ISOLATION AND LONELINESS ARE SERIOUS HEALTH RISKS AND LEAD TO ILLNESS AND PREMATURE DEATH - ESPECIALLY FOR OLDER ADULTS. "A DAY OUT" RESPITE PROGRAM PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE WITH MILD COGNITIVE-RELATED ISSUES TO CONNECT AND ENGAGE WITH OTHERS WHILE ALSO PROVIDING CARE PARTNERS A NEEDED BREAK FROM CAREGIVING RESPONSIBILITIES.
