FURTHER THE GENERAL WELFARE AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY, LOCALLY, IN ISRAEL, AND THROUGHOUT THE WORLD; TO RAISE AND DISBURSE FUNDS AND OTHERWISE PLAN FOR THE CHARITABLE, SOCIAL, CULTURAL, RELIGIOUS, AND EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY, LOCALLY, IN ISRAEL, AND THROUGHOUT THE WORLD; AND TO FOSTER COOPERATION AMONG LOCAL JEWISH ORGANIZATIONS DEDICATED TO THESE PURPOSES.
CAMP BEN FRANKEL IS A COED, OVERNIGHT, SUMMER CAMP FOR JEWISH CHILDREN AND TEENS LOCATED IN CARBONDALE, IL. SINCE 1949, OUR CAMPERS HAVE DEVELOPED LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS AND DEEP CONNECTIONS TO JUDAISM AND ISRAEL. WITH ENROLLMENT LIMITED TO ONLY 100 CAMPERS, CHILDREN ENJOY A SMALL, PERSONAL COMMUNITY WITH LOTS OF INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION. ESTABLISHED AS A PROGRAM OF THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND WESTERN KENTUCKY, FOR 70 YEARS CAMP BEN FRANKEL HAS TOUCHED THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS OF JEWISH CHILDREN.IN 2019 CAMP BEN FRANKEL GREW ENROLLMENT IN TWO KEY DOMOGRAPHICS; CHILDREN FROM OUR SERVICE ARE AND CHILDREN FROM SELF-IDENTIFIED SMALL JEWISH COMMUNITIES. ALSO, ACHIEVING A CAMPER RETURN RATE OF 85%. AFTER A SUMMER AT CAMP BEN FRANKEL, PARENTS REPORTED A PRONOUNCED DIFFERENCE IN THEIR CHILD'S SELF-CONFIDENCE, JEWISH IDENTITY, AND CONNECTION TO OTHER JEWISH CHILDREN.THE CAMP WAS ADMITTED TO THE MIDWEST JEWISH CAMP GROUP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FOUNDATION FOR JEWISH CAMP AND THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF METROPOLITAN CHICAGO AND TO JCAMP180, A PROGRAM OF THE HAROLD GRINSPOON FOUNDATION. THE CAMP ALSO PARTNERED WITH KESHET, AN INDUSTRY LEADING ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES AND SPECIAL NEEDS, COMPLETED 70TH SUMMER OF CAMP OPERATIONS AND SERVED 85 CAMPERS WHILE EXPANDING PROGRAMMATIC OFFERINGS TO MORE THAN 100 ELECTIVE ACTIVITIES AND BEGAN A STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS. THE CAMP OPERATIONS WERE ALSO FULLY ACCREDITED BY THE AMERICAN CAMP ASSOCIATION.
