Organizations Filed Purposes: The Center for Election Science advances smarter electoral systems to improve social good in the public and private sectors by providing scholarship, election-related resources, and informed advocacy.

Research Advancement : In 2018,The Center for Election Science(CES)sponsored a symposium on proportional representation in British Columbia, Canada. This symposium brought together researchers and electoral system experts from around Canada to create a set of recommendations for the British Columbia government in their pursuit of implementing proporational representation. CES also worked with researchers from the Paris School of Ecomomics to analyze data and write an academic paper on the results of a nationwide polling study that tested how voters would have voted differently in the 2016 election had they been able to use approval voting.

Public Outreach : CES expanded our reach and informed the public about voting methods in a number of ways in 2018. We attended and/or exhibited at 12 conferences and summits, including Politicon, FreedomFest, Effective Altruism Global London, Personal Democracy Forum, and Netroots Nation. We launched a project to rebuild our organization's website to make it more engaging and easier for users to navigate. We also published dozens of informational articles on our website and conducted additional outreach through social media, news outlets, and email newsletters.

Voting Method Advancement : In 2018, CES achieved a major accomplishment toward our mission of advancing better voting methods. We led an educational campaign in Fargo, ND alongside local partners who were running a ballot initiative to implement approval voting locally. Our efforts helped make Fargo, ND the first US city to adopt voting, with 63.5% of voters supporting the initiative.
