TO PROMOTE PUBLIC APPRECIATION, UNDERSTANDING AND SUPPORT OF THE HUMANITIES THROUGH FESTIVALS AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
THE CHICAGO HUMANITIES FESTIVAL (THE FESTIVAL) IS COMMITTED TO PROGRAMMING THAT ADDRESSES THE MOST CHALLENGING CONVERSATIONS, DEBATES, AND IDEAS IN AMERICAN SOCIETY, AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE QUALITY AND RANGE OF OUR CIVIC AND CULTURAL DISCOURSE. THE FESTIVAL FEATURES INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS AT THE HEART OF THESE CRITICAL CONVERSATIONS, INCLUDING AUTHORS, ARTISTS, ACADEMICS, JOURNALISTS, POLICY MAKERS, AND OTHER THINKERS SHAPING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD. OVER THE COURSE OF ITS 30-YEAR HISTORY, THE FESTIVAL HAS PRESENTED 3,000+ FESTIVAL PROGRAMS AND 4,000+ PRESENTERS, AMONG THEM 12 NOBEL LAUREATES AND 70+ PULITZER-PRIZE WINNERS. THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH EXCELLENT THINKERS, AND FULLY EXPLORE A WIDE RANGE OF NEW AND LONG-STANDING IDEAS FROM MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVES, IS A HALLMARK OF THE FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE. THE CHICAGO HUMANITIES FESTIVAL IS A YEAR-ROUND INSTITUTION, PRESENTING APPROXIMATELY 120 PROGRAMS ANNUALLY, BOOK-ENDED BY A SPRING FESTIVAL (APRIL/MAY) AND FALL FESTIVAL (OCTOBER/NOVEMBER), THAT SPAN TWO AND THREE WEEKS RESPECTIVELY. WITH AN ANNUAL AUDIENCE OF OVER 35,000, FESTIVAL PROGRAMS REFLECT THE FULL DIVERSITY OF THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE; THE BREADTH OF THE FESTIVAL'S APPROACH IS ITS GREATEST STRENGTH AND KEY DIFFERENTIATOR. THROUGH PROVIDING ACCESS TO THOUGHTFUL HUMANITIES PROGRAMS THAT SPEAK TO LIVED EXPERIENCES, THE FESTIVAL CREATES COMMUNITY AND ENABLES CONVERSATIONS BOTH IN PERSON AT OUR PUBLIC EVENTS AND ALSO ONLINE. DIVERSITY, EQUITY, ACCESSIBILITY, AND INCLUSIVITY MARK PROGRAMS AND EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES ALIKE.
