INTRODUCE CREATIVE SKILLS TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS, THEREBY PROVIDING THEM WITH TOOLS TO ARTICULATE THEIR IDEAS AND OBSERVATIONS AND THE CONFIDENCE TO TRANSFORM THEIR PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT. TRAIN AND EDUCATE PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS IN THE PROCESS OF CREATING COMMUNITY RESPONSIVE ART PROJECTS, ENABLING THEM TO BECOME RESPONSIBLE LEADERS IN THE FIELD OF PUBLIC ART. EDUCATE COMMUNITIES TO THE SOCIAL AND AESTHETIC POSSIBILITIES OF COLLABORATIVE PUBLIC ART.

THE NORTHWEST PORTAGE WALKING MUSEUM IS A COMMUNITY-LEAD PROPOSAL FOR AN INTERPRETIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE AND RECREATION AMENITY THAT INVITES PEOPLE TO VISIT THE NEIGHBORHOODS ALONG IRVING PARK ROAD AND LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE COMMUNITIES BETWEEN TWO OF CHICAGO'S LANDMARK RIVERS. THIS INSTALLATION WILL WEAVE AN INTERPRETIVE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CHICAGO AND DESPLAINES RIVERS THAT CELEBRATES THE NATURAL AND CULTURAL LIVING HISTORIES OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND NATIVE-AMERICAN CONTRIBUTIONS THROUGH ART, EDUCATION, AND RECREATION.

THE METCALFE BRICOLAGE MURAL IS TITLED "RICH HISTORY" THAT PARALLELS IN THINGS THAT WERE DONE IN AFRICA PRE-SLAVERY WITH THINGS THAT WE DO NOW. THE CENTER IMAGE DISPLAYS HANDS PAINTED IN BLACK AND WHITE PLACING A GOLD CROWN ON A TODDLER'S HEAD. THE SIZE OF THIS MOSAIC MURAL WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET 6 INCHES TALL AND 100 FEET LONG.

THE BLUE DOOR NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER IS TO HELP IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS OF RESIDENTS, AS WELL AS SUPPORT THE OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE LIVING OUTSIDE OF DOWNTOWN CHICAGO. CHICAGO PUBLIC ARTISTS DAMON REED ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY TO COMPLETE A DESIGN FOR THE CENTER.
