BASED ON OUR BELIEF IN HUMAN POTENTIAL, GOLDIE'S PLACE ASSISTS ADULTS WHO ARE HOMELESS TO BECOME SELF-SUPPORTING AND FINANCIALLY INDEPENDENT BY PROVIDING CONFIDENCE-BUILDING DENTAL TREATMENT, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, JOB PLACEMENT, AND RETENTION SUPPORT.
THE EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PROVIDES A GROUP OF SERVICES THAT HELP HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS TO INCREASE THEIR EMPLOYABILITY AND THEIR SKILLS TO OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT. OUR EMPLOYMENT STAFF ASSISTS INDIVIDUALS WITH AN ASSESSMENT OF SKILLS, INTERESTS AND WORK HISTORY. THEY ALSO HELP IMPROVE JOB SEARCH TECHNIQUES, RESUME WRITING, APPLICATION PREPARATION, INTERVIEW AND PRESENTATION SKILLS. WITH GUIDANCE FROM JOB COACHES, EACH PARTICIPANT CREATES AN INDIVIDUAL SERVICE PLAN, MAPPING OUT CONCRETE STEPS TO SECURING AND MAINTAINING A SELF-SUSTAINING, PERMANENT JOB. PLACEMENT IN FULL OR PART TIME JOBS, ONGOING JOB COACHING AND EMPLOYMENT RETENTION SUPPORT ARE ALSO PROVIDED. APPROXIMATELY 100 INDIVIDUALS ARE PLACED IN EMPLOYMENT EACH YEAR. IN 2016, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES TO OVER 250 HOMELESS MEN AND WOMEN THROUGH ITS EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM.
THE DENTAL SERVICES PROGRAM ASSISTS HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS TO MAINTAIN OR ATTAIN DENTAL WELLNESS, THROUGH DENTAL SERVICES STAFFED BY VOLUNTEER DENTISTS. THERE ARE VERY FEW SOURCES OF DENTAL CARE AVAILABLE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE HOMELESS. YET EXHIBITING GOOD DENTAL HYGIENE AND BEING PAIN FREE ARE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF EMPLOYABILITY AND MAINTAINING STABLE EMPLOYMENT. THE AGENCY PARTNERED WITH THE UIC COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY TO CREATE THE NATION'S FIRST STUDENT RUN DENTAL CLINIC IN 2008 AND THROUGH THE UIC DENTAL STUDENTS, THE KENNEDY KING HYGIENE STUDENT ROTATIONS AND THE 27 VOLUNTEER DENTISTS WHO OFFER THEIR SERVICES ON A MONTHLY BASIS, COMPREHENSIVE DENTAL TREATMENT WAS PROVIDED TO NEARLY 358 PATIENTS WHO RECEIVED TREATMENT THROUGH 2,077 PATIENT VISITS.
THE CLOTHES CLOSET PROGRAM ASSISTS HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS TO BECOME APPROPRIATELY CLOTHED, ACCESSORIZED AND GROOMED. THEY GAIN A GREATER DEGREE OF CONFIDENCE THROUGH THEIR TRANSFORMED VISUAL APPEARANCE. THIS NEW APPEARANCE ALSO HELPS THEM BECOME MORE EMPLOYABLE AND ULTIMATELY EMPLOYED. AN AVERAGE OF 1,500 ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE FOR MALE AND FEMALE PARTICIPANTS TO SELECT FROM, INCLUDING SUITS, SLACKS, SHIRTS, BLOUSES, DRESSES, SHOES, BELTS, SOCKS AND UNDERGARMENTS. THE CLOTHING CLOSET IS OPERATED BY PART TIME STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS WHO SCREEN, SORT AND DISPLAY EACH ITEM. WE SPECIALIZE IN INTERVIEW AND WORK-APPROPRIATE CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES AND OFFER SEASONAL CLOTHING AS WELL. THROUGH THE CLOTHES CLOSET PROGRAM, APPROXIMATELY 700 MEN AND WOMEN ARE PROVIDED INTERVIEW OUTFITS AND DAILY WEAR EACH YEAR. NO REVENUE OR EXPENSES ARE BOOKED FOR THIS PROGRAM.
