TO PROMOTE THE FULL AND EQUAL PARTICIPATION OF IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES IN THE POLITICAL, CIVIC, CULTURAL, AND SOCIAL LIFE OF OUR DIVERSE SOCIETY.

THE IMMIGRANT FAMILY RESOURCE PROGRAM (IFRP) IS A CONTRACT BETWEEN 36 IMMIGRANT SERVING ORGANIZATIONS IN ILLINOIS, THE ILLINOIS COALITION FOR IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE RIGHTS, AND THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES TO SUPPORT IMMIGRANT ACCESS TO PUBLIC BENEFITS. THE GOAL OF THE IFRP IS TO ENSURE THAT LOW INCOME IMMIGRANT FAMILIES AND OTHER LIMITED-ENGLISH SPEAKING PERSONS ARE ABLE TO THRIVE BY REDUCING BARRIERS WHEN SEEKING PUBLIC BENEFITS AS WELL AS THE CASH SUPPORT THEY NEED FOR PROPER HEALTH, WELL-BEING, AND ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY. IN 2020, ICIRR COMMUNITY PARTNERS AGENCIES COMPLETED 11,293 INTERPRETATIONS AND PROVIDED 35,343 TRANSLATIONS IN OVER 60 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES. A TOTAL OF 16,381 FAMILIES RECEIVED IN-DEPTH SERVICES RANGING FROM ASSISTANCE IN APPLYING FOR A MEANS TESTED BENEFIT TO ADVOCACY AT A FAMILY COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER (FCRC). THIS YEAR, 11,143 IDHS-RELATED APPLICATIONS WERE ALSO COMPLETED, WITH THE MAJORITY BEING FOR MEDICAID AND/OR SNAP BENEFITS. OUR PARTNERS ALSO ASSISTED 90,240 PEOPLE WITH INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES BY WAY OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH.
THE NEW AMERICANS INITIATIVE PROGRAM IS FUNDED THROUGH THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES. THE NAI PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TO ASSIST ILLINOIS LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENTS AND REFUGEES IN APPLYING FOR US CITIZENSHIP. THIS YEAR, AS A COLLABORATIVE OF FORTY SEVEN COMMUNITY PARTNERS, THE PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO SERVE A TOTAL OF 25,456 UNDUPLICATED INDIVIDUALS, WHICH REPRESENTS AN 11% INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SERVED IN COMPARISON TO FY19. IN FY20, ICIRR PARTNERS CONDUCTED OUTREACH TO 14,915 NAI ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS. 48% OF THOSE WHO WERE CONTACTED, PARTICIPATED IN EDUCATION OR/AND APPLICATION PROCESSING ACTIVITIES. AND ALSO, APPLICATION PROCESSING PARTNERS WERE ABLE TO ASSIST 7,075 PEOPLE THROUGH THE NEW AMERICANS INITIATIVE, THIS REFLECTS AN 18% INCREASE FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. 3,466 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION CLASSES IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS THE INTERVIEW PROCESS AND 57% COMPLETED THE COURSE.
THE ICIRR 2020 CENSUS CAMPAIGN BROUGHT TOGETHER 65 NONPROFIT AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS IN CHICAGO, COOK COUNTY, AND THE 8 COLLAR COUNTIES, TO REACH OUT TO IMMIGRANTS, REFUGEES, AND NEW AMERICANS ABOUT THE 2020 CENSUS AND ASSIST IN COMPLETING THE CENSUS QUESTIONNAIRE. OVER 10 MONTHS, THE PROJECT REACHED OUT TO OVER 500,000 HOUSEHOLDS THROUGH COMMUNITY EDUCATION EVENTS, DOOR KNOCKING, PHONE BANKING, AND DIGITAL AND TRADITIONAL MEDIA, AND ASSISTED OVER 29,900 HOUSEHOLDS WITH COMPLETING THE CENSUS QUESTIONNAIRE. THE CAMPAIGN WAS FUNDED BY THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES.
