ONE OF THE PRIMARY SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE NATION'S HOSPITALS AND HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS IS TECHNICAL EDUCATION AROUND THE ISSUES OF DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT, PROVIDING CULTURALLY COMPETENT CARE AND TOOLS FOR REDUCING DISPARITIES. IFD IS ALSO A RESOURCE FOR RECRUITING MINORITIES FOR SENIOR LEADERSHIP POSITIONS IN HOSPITALS. THERE IS AN ONLINE DATABASE FOR HOSPITALS TO POST OPEN POSITIONS, AND FOR INDIVIDUALS TO POST THEIR RESUMES. BEYOND THIS SERVICE, IFD MAINTAINS A CONFIDENTIAL REGISTRY OF SENIOR EXECUTIVES. IFD PROVIDES PROCEDURES FOR DEVELOPING CULTURALLY COMPETENT ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING STAFF EDUCATIONAL TOOLS AND SUBJECT MATTER, INCLUDING CONTENT AND STATISTICS. IFD CONDUCTS SITE VISITS AND EVALUATIONS UPON INVITATION.
THE SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM (SEP) AND FALL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM (FEP) ARE AN ENHANCED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS WHICH GIVES REAL-WORLD WORK EXPERIENCE TO GRADUATE STUDENTS IN HEALTH ADMINISTRATION WITH A 10-12 WEEK, PAID INTERNSHIP IN A HOSPITAL OR HEALTH CARE FACILITY. IN ADDITION TO GAINING BROAD EXPOSURE TO THE HOST INSTITUTE'S STAFF, STAKEHOLDERS AND CHALLENGES, SEP/FEP INTERNS ALSO COMPLETE AN INDEPENDENTLY DESIGNED SPECIAL PROJECT. EXPERIENCED ADMINISTRATORS SERVE AS PRECEPTORS AND MENTOR THE INTERNS, PROVIDING SUPPORT AND CAREER ADVICE AS WELL AS INTRODUCING THEM TO COLLEAGUES. THE SEP/FEP PROGRAMS ALSO SERVE A SECONDARY PURPOSE IN INTRODUCING HOST HOSPITALS AND HEALTH CARE FACILITIES TO NEW, YOUNG HEALTH ADMINISTRATION GRADUATE STUDENTS FOR POSSIBLE CONSIDERATION FOR FUTURE EMPLOYMENT. IFD OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS THAT ARE AWARDED ANNUALLY.
THE INSTITUTE OFFERS DIVERSITY DIALOGUES AND NEWSLETTERS. THE DIVERSITY DIALOGUES ARE A SERIES OF BIMONTHLY CONFERENCE CALLS THAT DISCUSS AND EXAMINE CURRENT ISSUES AND TRENDS IN HEALTH CARE DIVERSITY. THE CALLS, FREE TO MEMBERS, ALLOW PARTICIPANTS TO INTERACT WITH AND LEARN FROM EXPERTS IN THE FIELD. THE IFD'S NEWSLETTER HIGHLIGHTS SUCCESSFUL DIVERSITY PROGRAMS, FOCUSING ON RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION, NETWORKING AND MENTORING, SUCCESSION PLANNING AND MORE.
