INTERFAITH YOUTH CORE (IFYC) SEEKS TO PARTNER WITH COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES WORKING TO TURN RELIGIOUS DIVERSITY INTO A POSITIVE FORCE IN OUR SOCIETY.
TO PARTNER WITH HIGHER EDUCATION TO ELEVATE THE CIVIC PRIORITY OF INTERFAITH.
MODEL ENVIRONMENTS: IFYC ARTICULATES A HIGH STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR LAUNCHING AND SUSTAINING INTERFAITH INITIATIVES WITHIN HIGHER EDUCATION, USING OUR LEADERSHIP PRACTICES FOR INTERFAITH EXCELLENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION AS A GUIDEPOST. WE PARTNER WITH CAMPUSES TO IMPLEMENT CONSULTATIONS, DEVISE ASSESSMENT RESOURCES, AND STEWARD RELATIONSHIPS OVER THE LONG-TERM, ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE INSTITUTION-WIDE SHIFTS EMBEDDING INTERFAITH COOPERATION. - WITH 512 CAMPUSES ADOPTING IFYC'S 1 TO 9 LEADERSHIP PRACTICES FOR INTERFAITH EXCELLENCE, A COMMITMENT TO INTERFAITH COOPERATION HAS SPREAD TO OVER 18.2% OF THE 2,800-UNIT SECTOR (FOUR-YEAR, RESIDENTIAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES).-IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES (AAC&U), IFYC SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE SECOND YEAR OF A THREE-YEAR PROGRAM THAT ADVANCES CAMPUS WIDE INTERFAITH COOPERATION THROUGH AAC&U'S SUMMER INSTITUTE STRUCTURE. - OUR WORK TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF 220 NEW COURSES AND COURSE SEQUENCES IN INTERFAITH STUDIES CONTINUED TO GROW CONSIDERABLY IN FY19, AS IFYC SUPPORTED SCHOLARS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OR REVISION OF 41 INTERFAITH AND INTERRELIGIOUS STUDIES COURSES.-WE AWARDED 41 CAMPUS INNOVATION GRANTS AND STRATEGY GRANTS TO COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES TO SUPPORT THE DEEPENING OF INTERFAITH EFFORTS AND STAFF AND FACULTY CAPACITY.- IFYC COMPLETED THE THIRD YEAR OF OUR CAMPUS INTERFAITH INVENTORY (CII), AN ONLINE TOOL THAT HELPS CAMPUSES TAKE STOCK OF INTERFAITH COOPERATION AS A CAMPUS-WIDE PRIORITY. OUR MOST RECENT REPORT BASED ON CII DATA IS ENTITLED "HOW SENIOR ADMINISTRATORS, FACULTY AND STAFF FOSTER CIVIC RELIGIOUS PLURALISM ON CAMPUS."
LEADERS: IFYC TRAINS, CULTIVATES, AND NETWORKS A SET OF CAMPUS LEADERS, INCLUDING STUDENTS, STAFF, FACULTY, AND ADMINISTRATORS, TO ADVANCE INTERFAITH COOPERATION WITHIN THEIR SPHERES OF INFLUENCE. IFYC RESOURCES AND NETWORKS A GROWING BASE OF IFYC ALUMNI WHO WILL CONTINUE TO LEAD INTERFAITH EFFORTS IN THEIR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LIVES BEYOND GRADUATION, THEREFORE BEGINNING TO LEAD SOCIETAL ADOPTION. -DEEP AND ONGOING LEADERSHIP EFFORTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY WERE INDICATED BY THE SUCCESS OF OUR LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS. IN FY19, WE TRAINED A TOTAL OF 3,354 INTERFAITH LEADERS: 1,708 STUDENTS AND 1,646 CAMPUS EDUCATORS AT BOTH INTRODUCTORY AND ADVANCED LEVELS.-41% OF OUR ALUMNI NETWORK ENGAGED IN INTERFAITH ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS IN-PERSON GATHERINGS, INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC CONFERENCES, WEBINARS, AND MICRO-GRANTS.
COMMUNICATIONS & KNOWLEDGEBASE: IFYC CONTRIBUTES TO AND CURATES A KNOWLEDGEBASE THAT PROVIDES THE THEORETICAL CORE TO UNDERGIRD PRACTICE. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CO-PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS DRS. ALYSSA ROCKENBACH AND MATTHEW MAYHEW, IFYC IS COMPLETING FULL ANALYSIS FROM A RESEARCH INITIATIVE, INTERFAITH DIVERSITY EXPERIENCES AND ATTITUDES SURVEY (IDEALS), WHICH PROVIDES AN ACTIONABLE DATASET TO INFORM EFFECTIVE CAMPUS PRACTICES IN INTERFAITH LEARNING. - EBOO PATEL, IFYC FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT, AND MARY ELLEN GIESS, IFYC SENIOR DIRECTOR OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS, ALONG WITH KATHLEEN M. GOODMAN, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF STUDENT AFFAIRS AT MIAMI UNIVERSITY, CO-EDITED "EDUCATING ABOUT RELIGIOUS DIVERSITY & INTERFAITH ENGAGEMENT: A HANDBOOK FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS."- THROUGH A STRATEGIC MIX OF EARNED MEDIA, SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT, A ROBUST EMAIL PROGRAM, IFYC REACHED OVER AN ESTIMATED HALF A MILLION MEMBERS OF OUR TARGET AUDIENCE ON CAMPUS AND MANY MORE IN THE WIDER PUBLIC. OUR KNOWLEDGEBASE, PROGRAMS, AND MISSION WERE FEATURED OR REFERENCED IN OVER 146 STORIES PUBLISHED IN HIGHER EDUCATION AS WELL AS INFLUENTIAL POPULAR PRESS.-IN FALL 2019, WE RELEASED OUR LATEST IDEALS REPORT, ENTITLED "FRIENDSHIPS MATTER: THE ROLE OF PEER RELATIONSHIPS IN INTERFAITH LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT." THIS REPORT AND OTHER IDEALS RESEARCH IS BEING CITED IN SEVERAL EXTERNAL PUBLICATIONS, INCLUDING A RECENT STUDY FROM THE U.S. GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE THAT RECOMMENDS THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE PROVIDE INCREASED SUPPORT TO COLLEGE CAMPUSES TO ADDRESS RELIGIOUSLY-BASED HATE CRIMES, POINTING TO IDEALS RESEARCH AS PROVIDING EVIDENCE-BASED SOLUTIONS.
