To leverage sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty. The Chicago Eco House operates a scalable social enterprise afterschool programming model for at risk youth in urban agriculture by providing them the skills and support system to be successful while remediating urban blight and fostering healthier ecosystems. The Eco House model is a solution for vulnerable neighborhoods in Chicago suffering from urban blight, high crime, and high poverty. Eco House is a viable solution for these problems by converting vacant lots into 100 percent sustainable and off grid flower farms (we use solar powered rainwater catchment for irrigation) that teach at risk youth hands on STEM skills in construction, renewable energy, irrigation, agriculture, and workforce development through our in house flower shop called Southside Blooms. Currently, the Eco House serves 80 youth per week at three flower farm sites in Chicago (Englewood, West Garfield Park, and Woodlawn). The Eco House is a Springboard Foundation grantee and has won several awards including the UL Innovative Education Award, Delta BOOST Award, and Keeping Chicago Beautifuls Community Vision Award.
