Organizations Filed Purposes: The Organization's mission is to strongly encourage and promote scientific research in the field of the normal and disordered hair growth; promote dissemination of state of the art knowledge on hair biology and medical hair disorders; promote interdisciplinary interaction between basic scientists and clinicians through regular meetings, publications and innovative communication; establish links with other international hair research societies and to arrange combined meetings on a periodic basis; educate both our colleagues and the public on hair biology and the pathophysiology and treatment of hair related conditions; and create and maintain a database of hair disorders that will foster greater enhanced communication between bench scientists, clinicians, industry, patient support societies, lay public, government and managed care organizations.

To promote scientific research and education in the field of the normal and disordered hair growth

Annual scientific meetings are held enabling clinicians and scientists to examine the many aspects of hair disease and treatment. Topics included nutrition and hair growth, excessive hair growth, hair loss in women, chemotherapy induced hair loss, stem cell therapy, hair surgery, and the effect of stress on hair.

To enable young physicians and scientists to acquire additional academic or research skills that will further their careers as leaders in hair research, mentorship grants up to $2,200 each are awarded for training, dermatology or dermatopathology residents, fellows, or junior faculty to enable study with a hair research mentor. Both the mentor or the applicant must be a member of the North American Hair Research Society. 12 awards were granted in 2019.

The organization hosts a website to provide ready access to recently published articles or presentations on hair research and treatment and to inform researchers and clinicians about upcoming meetings pertinent to hair biology and research. The Seal of Recognition program was created to inform physicians and consumers about products whose quality and effectiveness are beneficial in some aspect to promoting healthy hair and scalp, in diagnosing or treating hair or scalp disease or hair loss, or in stimulating or inhibiting hair growth. A positive review will result in a Seal of Recognition granted by the Organization.
