OUR EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY OUTREACH HAS ALLOWED US TO MORE PROACTIVELY ENGAGE STAKEHOLDERS IN THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS TO HELP TO CREATE THE CONDITIONS TO PROMOTE HEALTHY COMMUNITIES BY LEVERAGING THE POWER OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION. WHILE WE REMAIN ACTIVE IN ALL PARTS OF CHICAGO, THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH EFFORT HAS BEEN COMMUNITIES OF DISINVESTMENT AND COMMUNITIES OF COLOR. OUR EFFORTS IN ROSELAND TO LEVERAGE HISTORIC PRESERVATION TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WILL PROVIDE BENEFITS TO THE RESIDENTS OF ROSELAND. OUR EFFORTS TO RAISE THE PROFILE OF ROSELAND INCLUDED ITS PARTICIPATION IN THE OPEN HOUSE CHICAGO PROGRAM. WE CREATED A 4-MINUTE VIDEO WHICH DISCUSSED ROSELAND'S PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE. WE SPONSORED A ONE-HOUR PANEL DISCUSSION WITH ROSELAND COMMUNITY LEADERS, ATTENDED BY APPROXIMATELY 250 PEOPLE WITH WIDE DISTRIBUTION THROUGH OUR SOCIAL MEDIA. REACHING A WIDE AUDIENCE WHICH IS IMPORTANT TO CHANGE NEGATIVE NEIGHBORHOOD PERCEPTIONS. THE PRIMARY DELIVERABLE FROM OUR CHICAGO 7 PROGRAM IS THE CHICAGO 7 BOOK. IT IS APPROXIMATELY 100 PAGES IN LENGTH WITH BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHY AND ORIGINAL RESEARCH AND WRITING. THE BOOK INCLUDES A LIBRARY OF CONGRESS NUMBER. THE CREATION, PRINTING AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE BOOK IS ESSENTIAL TO ALLOW DECISION MAKERS TO APPRECIATE THE VALUE OF ENDANGERED HISTORIC RESOURCES AND PROVIDES SPECIFIC STRATEGIES FOR HOW TO SAVE THEM.DURING OUR EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND WRITING OF THE CHICAGO 7 MOST ENDANGERED BOOK, WE WRESTLED WITH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES TO ALLOW ROSELAND TO BENEFIT FROM THE HERITAGE TOURISM THAT THE PULLMAN NATIONAL MONUMENT WILL GENERATE. AFTER A LENGTHY EFFORT, WE IDENTIFIED A "HERITAGE BRIDGE" STRATEGY TO POWERFULLY DRAW PULLMAN HERITAGE TOURIST (AND THEIR HERITAGE TOURISM DOLLARS) TO ROSELAND'S MICHIGAN AVE. THERE ARE MANY BEAUTIFUL AND SIGNIFICANT PARK, SCHOOL, AND CHURCH BUILDINGS IN ROSELAND CLUSTERED AROUND PALMER PARK BY CHICAGO'S MOST CELEBRATED ARCHITECTS WITH STRONG AND DIRECT PULLMAN CONNECTION. THANKS TO OUR EFFORTS, THE CITY OF CHICAGO IS PLANNING TO PREPARE A LANDMARK DISTRICT RECOMMENDATION.
