Woodlawn Community SummitThe mission of the Woodlawn Community Summit is to work on behalf of residents and business owners to create and maintain a stable neighborhood in the areas of safety, housing, economic development and the overall neighborhood plan for transformation of the Woodlawn Community. SECC is proud to lead this progressive initiative that drives the collaboration of neighbors, youth groups, elected leaders, business owners, and community stakeholders to promote the comprehensive growth and well-being of the Woodlawn community.

Economic Development Programs:Neighborhood Business Development Center (NBDC)As one of several NBDCs within throughout the city, the SECC continues to work in partnership with local businesses and community stakeholders to enhance business districts and the overall quality of life within our footprint. Business District ImprovementThe MOU between the City of Chicago and the University of Chicago provides an opportunity for SECC to implement an integrated, community-based approach to neighborhood improvement. SECC aim is to leverage the University of Chicago resources to supplement and enhance business improvement district in Oakland, Kenwood, Hyde Park, Washington Park, and Woodlawn.

Special Service Area No. 61:SECC is the sponsor agency for Special Service Area (SSA) No. 61 which is responsible for supporting businesses and business district improvements in Hyde Park. Special Service Areas, known as Business Improvement Districts or BIDs in other cities, are local tax districts that fund expanded services and programs through a localized property tax levy within contiguous areas. The enhanced services and programs are in addition to those currently provided through the City of Chicago. SSA-funded projects typically include but are not limited to: public way maintenance and beautification; district marketing and advertising; business retention/attraction, special events and promotional activities; auto and bike transit; security; facade improvements; and other commercial and economic development initiatives.
