THE MISSION OF THIRD COAST PERCUSSION IS TO INSPIRE AND EDUCATE THROUGH THE CREATION OF EXCITING AND UNEXPECTED MUSICAL EXPERIENCES.
IT SHALL BE THE MISSION OF THIRD COAST PERCUSSION NFP:TO PRESENT CONCERTS OF CONTEMPORARY AND CLASSICAL REPERTOIRE IN BOTH TRADITIONAL CONCERT HALLS AND ALTERNATIVE VENUES, THEREBY ENRICHING AND ENTERTAINING THE BROADER PUBLIC AND PROMOTING NEW MUSIC AND THE ARTS TO A WIDER AUDIENCE;TO MAINTAIN AN ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW REPERTOIRE FOR PERCUSSION, COMMISSIONING AND COLLABORATING WITH LIVING COMPOSERS TO CREATE NEW MUSIC SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THE ENSEMBLE; ANDTO BE ACTIVE IN THE FIELD OF ARTS EDUCATION BY PRESENTING OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL CONCERTS TO PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS, EXPOSING YOUNGER GENERATIONS TO MUSIC AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ARTS IN MODERN CULTURE AND SOCIETY, AND TO BE ACTIVE IN PRESENTING CLINICS AND MASTER-CLASSES TO STUDENTS AT MUSIC SCHOOLS, CONSERVATORIES AND UNIVERSITIES WITH THE GOAL OF EDUCATING FUTURE MUSIC PROFESSIONALS.
PERFORMANCE. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION PRESENTED 56 CONCERT PERFORMANCES THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES, ITALY, ENGLAND, COLOMBIA, AND HONG KONG. THE ENSEMBLE RECEIVED THEIR 2ND GRAMMY NOMINATION, RELEASED 1 FULL LENGTH ALBUM, 1 EP, AND CONTRIBUTED TO MULTIPLE OTHER RECORD AND VIDEO RELEASES. IN THEIR HOMETOWN OF CHICAGO, THIRD COAST PERCUSSION PRESENTED THEIR ANNUAL CONCERT SEASON, APPEARING AT CONCERT HALLS AND ALTERNATIVE VENUES THROUGHOUT THE CITY. AFTER THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC SHUT DOWN PERFORMANCE VENUES AND IN-PERSON EVENTS, THIRD COAST PERCUSSION QUICKLY PIVOTED TO PROVIDING ONLINE, LIVE-STREAMED PERFORMANCES FROM THEIR REHEARSAL STUDIO IN CHICAGO. THE ENSEMBLE PRESENTED 10 LIVE-STREAMED CONCERTS FROM MARCH 18 - JUNE 30, 2020.
YOUTH EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES. THIRD COASTPERCUSSION PRESENTED 52 EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCES AND CLASSES TO K-12 SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, AND COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION CONTINUED THEIR CHICAGO-BASED EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVE "EMBARK" IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PEOPLES MUSIC SCHOOL. "EMBARK" BROUGHT THE ENSEMBLE TO STUDENTS IN THE BACK OF THE YARDS, GREATER GRAND CROSSING, UPTOWN, AND ALBANY PARK NEIGHBORHOODS OF CHICAGO TO CREATE STUDENT COMPOSITIONS AND PRESENT NEW COMMUNITY-BASED PERFORMANCES. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION CONTINUED THEIR DEVELOPMENT OF "MAKING WAVES", A PROJECT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME'S ENGINEERING COLLEGE THAT DEVELOPS S.T.E.A.M. (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, THE ARTS, AND MATH) CURRICULA FOR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN ELKHART, INDIANA. AFTER THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC SHUT DOWN SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY, THIRD COAST CONTINUED TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS VIRTUALLY, CREATING NEW DISTANCE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT POPULATIONS THROUGOUT THE U.S.
COMMISSIONING NEW WORKS. THIRD COAST PERCUSSION COMMISSIONED AND PREMIERED 9 NEW WORKS INCLUDING A FULL-LENGTH CONCERT OF NEW PERCUSSION MUSIC WITH VOICE AND GUITAR, A NEW MULTI-MOVEMENT WORK BY ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN JLIN, AND A NEW WORK BY INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED FILM COMPOSER DANNY ELFMAN. THE ENSEMBLE COMPLETED ITS 6TH ANNUAL "EMERGING COMPOSERS PARTNERSHIP", A PROGRAM THAT SELECTS YOUNG COMPOSERS FROM ACROSS THE WORLD TO COLLABORATE WITH THE ENSEMBLE IN CREATING NEW MUSIC.
