Organizations Filed Purposes: UMOJA IS A NATIONAL SOCIAL IMPACT ORGANIZATION WHOSE WORK FOCUSES ON ADULT CAPACITY BUILDING AS THE PRIMARY VEHICLE FOR CREATING SAFE, INCLUSIVE, AND RESTORATIVE SPACES. BY INVESTING IN SUSTAINABLE AND WELLNESS-ROOTED ADULT LEARNING, PRACTICES, AND MINDSETS, THEY EQUIP A COMMUNITY OF ADULTS WHO ARE PREPARED TO DO THE ONGOING WORK REQUIRED TO DISMANTLE AND REBUILD A SAFE, EQUITABLE AND JUST SOCIETY. UMOJA PROVIDES YOUNG PEOPLE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TOOLS ESSENTIAL TO THRIVE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL.

UMOJA'S COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS SEMINAR MODEL IS A THREE-PART, YEAR-LONG PROCESS THAT INCLUDES STRATEGIC PLANNING WITH THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY IN THE SPRING; UMOJA UNIVERSITY IN THE SUMMER FOR TEACHERS, COUNSELORS AND ADMINISTRATORS; AND CUSTOMIZED COACHING THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF UMOJA'S CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS (CPS) CERTIFIED, FOR-CREDIT, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULUM WITH OVER 500+ SEQUENCED AND SCOPED LESSONS. THE SEMINAR MODEL HAS TWO KEY GOALS: 1) ENSURING THAT ALL STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO ESSENTIAL TOOLS AND KNOWLEDGE IN ORDER TO GRADUATE WITH HIGH QUALITY POSTSECONDARY OPTIONS; AND 2) ENGAGING THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY IN SCHOOL-WIDE CHANGE THROUGH CULTURE BUILDING, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND BUILDING CRITICAL SYSTEMS AND CAPACITY.

AS A PREMIERE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PROVIDER IN CHICAGO AND ONE OF THE ONLY ORGANIZATIONS WITH A SIGNIFICANT BREADTH AND DEPTH OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN THESE AREAS, FROM STUDENT PROGRAMMING TO ADULT TRAINING TO DATA ANALYSIS TO SYSTEM DESIGN, THE DEMAND FOR UMOJA'S CURRICULA AND TRAINING IS GROWING BEYOND OUR CORE PROGRAM PARTNER SCHOOLS. OUR HIGHLY SKILLED STAFF PROVIDE CUSTOMIZED TRAINING, CURRICULA, AND COACHING FOR EDUCATORS, SCHOOLS, AND DISTRICTS TO EFFECTIVELY IMPLEMENT UMOJA'S COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, AND RESTORATIVE JUSTICE MODEL WITHIN THEIR SCHOOLS.
