THE WORLD EVANGELICAL ALLIANCE EXISTS TO FOSTER CHRISTIAN UNITY AND TO PROVIDE A WORLDWIDE IDENTITY, VOICE AND PLATFORM TO EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS. SEEKING EMPOWERMENT BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, THEY EXTEND THE KINGDOM OF GOD BY PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL TO ALL NATIONS AND BY CHRIST-CENTERED TRANSFORMATION WITHIN SOCIETY.
THE WEA SERVES THE LEADERS AND STAFF OF ITS 129 NATIONAL EVANGELICAL ALLIANCES AND OVER 150 MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS WITH GLOBAL CHRISTIAN RESEARCH, NEWS, PUBLICATIONS, LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND RESOURCES. IT IS STRATEGICALLY SITUATED TO REPRESENT CHRISTIANS GLOBALLY IN SOCIETY, MEDIA AND TO GOVERNMENTAL AND RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS. INCREASINGLY THE WEA IS ASKED TO GIVE AN AUTHORITATIVE CHRISTIAN RESPONSE TO WORLD EVENTS AS WELL AS SPEAK OUT ON ISSUES OF RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION AND GLOBAL PEACE EFFORTS. LASTLY, WEA IS SOLELY POSITIONED TO CONNECT NATIONAL ALLIANCES, CHURCHES AND PARA-CHURCH MINISTRIES FOR EFFECTIVE COLLABORATIVE ACTION. THE POWER OF THE COLLECTIVE IMPACT IS EXPONENTIALLY GREATER THAN THAT OF SEPARATE ACTIVITIES. FURTHERMORE, THE BENEFIT OF POOLING RESOURCES MINIMIZES DUPLICATION.
GLOBAL INITIATIVES:GLOBAL INITIATIVES INCLUDE ADVOCACY, COMMUNICATIONS (INCLUDING DESIGN AND IT SUPPORT) AND MARKETING TO STRENGTHEN THE VOICE OF THE WEA AND ITS CONSTITUENCY TO CHRISTIANS AROUND THE WORLD, MEDIA, GOVERNMENTS, AND OTHER FAITHS.UNITED NATIONS REPRESENTATION, EXPENSES $99,110 INCLUDING GRANTS OF $11,280. PROVIDE AN EVANGELICAL VOICE AT THE UN INCLUDING PARTICIPATION IN THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL OF THE UN.GLOBAL INSTITUTE OF LEADERSHIP, EXPENSES $20,222. PROVIDE WORLDWIDE TRAINING FOCUSED ON ASSISTING NATIONAL EVANGELICAL ALLIANCES IN OVER 130 COUNTRIES ON BOARD GOVERNANCE, LEADERSHIP SKILLS, COMMUNICATION, VISION CASTING, FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE ENGAGEMENT.OTHER INITIATIVES, EXPENSES $171,610 WITH GRANTS OF $151,368 THE ORGANIZATION WAS INVOLVED IN VARIOUS OTHER INITIATIVES DURING THE PAST YEAR; THE MOST SIGNIFICANT WERE GRANTS TO SUPPORT THE CHURCH IN PAKISTAN, PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES AND THE AFRICA BUILDING PROJECT IN KENYA.
MISSION COMMISSION:THE WEA MISSION COMMISSION IS A MISSIONAL NETWORK OF HUNDREDS OF MISSION LEADERS AROUND THE GLOBE, PROMOTING FELLOWSHIP, MUTUAL LEARNING, TRAINING AND COOPERATION. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR OF JULY 2018 TO JUNE 2019 THE COMMISSION HAS BEEN LED BY A STAFF TEAM OF FOUR PEOPLE WITH DR. BERTIL EKSTROM AS INTERIM DIRECTOR. A SEARCH COMMITTEE WAS APPOINTED BY THE GLOBAL LEADERSHIP COUNCIL OF THE MC IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY AND PRESENT A NAME TO BECOME THE NEW ED. IN JANUARY 2019 A GLOBAL SUMMIT WAS ORGANIZED IN KUALA LUMPUR WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF 60 INVITED LEADERS TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF THE COMMISSION AND THE PROFILE OF A NEW DIRECTOR. THE OUTCOMES OF THE SUMMIT HAVE ALSO GIVEN A NEW MOMENTUM TO THE COMMISSION AND A GROWING INTEREST IN PARTICIPATION BY YOUNGER LEADERS. A BIMONTHLY BULLETIN KEEPS THE MC ASSOCIATES AND OTHER MISSION LEADERS UPDATED ON THE LATEST TRENDS IN GLOBAL MISSION. AT THE END OF THIS PERIOD THE NAME OF DR. JAY MATENGA HAS BEEN PROPOSED TO BECOME THE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, STARTING IN JANUARY 1, 2020.
THEOLOGICAL COMMISSION:THE THEOLOGICAL COMMISSION SERVES AS A PROPHETIC EVANGELICAL VOICE THAT IS GLOBALLY REPRESENTATIVE, FAITHFUL TO SCRIPTURE, THEOLOGICALLY INFORMED AND SPEAKING WITH CLARITY AND RELEVANCE TO THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD. THE THEOLOGICAL COMMISSION OF THE WEA HAS FOCUSED ITS WORK ON COLLABORATION AND TRAINING FOR CHRISTIAN LEADERS IN PLACES OF RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION WITH THE AIM OF STRENGTHENING THE WITNESS OF THE CHURCHES AND THE WELLBEING OF THOSE COMMUNITIES. IT HAS ALSO BEEN INVOLVED IN INTERFAITH AND ECUMENICAL DIALOGUES FOR RECONCILIATION AND PEACE BUILDING.
