Organizations Filed Purposes: FOUNDATION 65 ACTIVELY PROMOTES INVOLVEMENT IN PUBLIC EDUCATION BY ALL SEGMENTS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND RAISES FUNDS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EVANSTON SCHOOLS, THE ACHIEVEMENT OF HIGH STANDARDS, AND THE EDUCATION EXPERIENCE FOR ALL STUDENTS.

TO FUND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS THAT BENEFIT THE STUDENTS OF EVANSTON/SKOKIE DISTRICT 65.

THE GOAL OF REACH IS TO PROVIDE IMPROVED LITERACY INSTRUCTION FOR KINDERGARTENERS AND TO INCREASE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL K/1 STUDENTS. THROUGH COACHING, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, INTERVENTIONS AND OUTREACH TO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS, REACH FOCUSES ON BASIC LITERACY SKILLS TO ENSURE THAT ALL STUDENTS GET A STRONG START IN KINDERGARTEN AND BEYOND. EVERY KINDERGARTENER AND 1ST GRADER IN THE DISTRICT WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS INNOVATIVE INITIATIVE.

COVID RELIEF FUND TO PROVIDE TECHNOLOGY AND BOOKS TO STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL CLOSINGS IN SPRING 2020.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM SUPPORTS SUMMER READING GROWTH BY PROVIDING BOOKS TO FIRST GRADE STUDENTS WHO HAVE RECEIVED SUPPLEMENTARY READING SUPPORT IN FIRST GRADE. FROM JUNE THROUGH AUGUST, TEACHERS CORRESPOND WITH STUDENTS AND SEND THEM BOOKS IN THE MAIL. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED AND/OR STRUGGLING READERS, ENGAGE IN VERY LITTLE READING DURING THEIR SUMMER VACATION. THIS LACK OF READING, RESULTS IN CONSIDERABLE SUMMER READING LOSS. STUDENTS OFTEN LOSE FROM ONE TO THREE MONTHS OF READING ACHIEVEMENT. BY KEEPING THESE STRUGGLING READERS ENGAGED IN READING, THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN THE READING GROWTH THEY HAD ATTAINED DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.
