MUSIC INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO ("INSTITUTE") WAS INCORPORATED IN 1939 UNDER THE ILLINOIS GENERAL NOT-FOR-PROFIT ACT. THE MISSION OF THE INSTITUTE IS TO PROVIDE THE FOUNDATION FOR A LIFELONG ENGAGEMENT WITH MUSIC BY: OFFERING THE HIGHEST QUALITY MUSIC EDUCATION FOR ALL AGES AND LEVELS OF ABILITY; REACHING INDIVIDUALS WITH MUSIC EDUCATION WHERE OPPORTUNITIES ARE LIMITED; SUPPORTING LIFELONG MUSICAL LEARNING IN EVERY COMMUNITY; BUILDING UPON A PROUD TRADITION OF DEVELOPING THE EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMER.

EACH YEAR, THE MUSIC INSTITUTE DEMONSTRATES THIS COMMITMENT THROUGH THREE KEY AREAS:1) PROVIDING PERSONALIZED MUSIC INSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES TO MORE THAN 2,000 STUDENTS OF ALL AGES, ABILITIES, AND LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE COMMUNITY MUSIC SCHOOL. THE MUSIC INSTITUTE OFFERS TRADITIONAL AND SUZUKI METHOD INSTRUCTION, WITH PRIVATE AND GROUP CLASS OPPORTUNITIES IN PIANO, VOICE, STRINGS, WINDS, BRASS, AND PERCUSSION, AS WELL AS JAZZ, AMERICAN ROOTS MUSIC, CHAMBER MUSIC, MUSIKGARTEN, MUSICIANSHIP, ORCHESTRAL AND CHORAL ENSEMBLES, SUMMER CAMPS, MUSICAL THEATER PROGRAMS, CHICAGO SUZUKI INSTITUTE WORKSHOPS, AND NATIONAL DUO PIANO FESTIVAL. OVER 500 MIC STUDENTS RECEIVED MORE THAN $300,000 IN DIRECT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SUPPORT. ADDITIONALLY, OVER $120,000 IN MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS TO 25 FELLOWS IN THE ACADEMY, AN ELITE, PRE-COLLEGE TRAINING CENTER FOR ASPIRING PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS. 2) INSPIRING MORE THAN 15,000 VISITORS ANNUALLY AT NICHOLS CONCERT HALL, THE MUSIC INSTITUTE'S PREMIER PERFORMANCE VENUE AND LANDMARK BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN EVANSTON. THE ACOUSTICALLY PERFECT, 550-SEAT CONCERT HALL PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC TO EXPERIENCE RENOWNED ARTISTS, AS WELL AS MUSIC INSTITUTE ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE, FACULTY, AND STUDENTS. OVER 600 EVENTS TAKE PLACE AT THE HALL EACH YEAR, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CLASSICAL MUSIC AND DANCE PERFORMANCES, JAZZ ENSEMBLES, CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERTS, WORLD-CLASS LECTURES, AND FREE MUSIC EDUCATION AND INSTRUMENT PROGRAMS. 3) SERVING AS A COMMUNITY RESOURCE IN MUSIC EDUCATION THROUGH THE PROVISION OF PROGRAMS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ARTSLINK AND THIRD COAST SUZUKI STRINGS, MUSIC FOR LIFE, AND THE AROUND TOWN CONCERT SERIES. THESE EVENTS ARE OFFERED FREE OF COST TO PARTICIPANTS, AND COMBINED, THESE PROGRAMS EMBODY THE MUSIC INSTITUTE'S FOUNDING VISION TO FOSTER A DIVERSE COMMUNITY OF MUSIC LEARNERS AT ALL LEVELS, SERVING MORE THAN TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ANNUALLY AT SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES, PERFORMANCE VENUES, AND COMMUNITY CENTERS ACROSS CHICAGOLAND."
