Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF THE AAP IS TO OBTAIN OPTIMAL PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SOCIAL, HEALTH FOR ALL INFANTS, CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, AND YOUNG ADULTS. THE ACADEMY SEEKS TO PROMOTE THIS GOAL BY ENCOURAGING AND ASSISTING ITS MEMBERS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO MEET THE OVERALL HEALTH NEEDS OF INFANTS, CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS, BY PROVIDING SUPPORT AND COUNSEL TO PARENTS AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC CONCERNED WITH THE HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF INFANTS, CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS, THEIR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, AND BY SERVING AS AN ADVOCATE FOR INFANTS, CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. THE ACADEMY PLEDGES ITS EFFORTS AND EXPERTISE TO A FUNDAMENTAL GOAL - THAT ALL CHILDREN AND YOUTH HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GROW UP SAFE AND STRONG, WITH FAITH IN THE FUTURE AND IN THEMSELVES.
HEALTHY RESILIENT CHILDREN - THE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES STAFF SUPPORT AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO NATIONAL COMMITTEES, SECTIONS, COUNCILS, TASK FORCES, AND WORK GROUPS THAT DEVELOP POLICY STATEMENTS, CLINICAL AND TECHNICAL REPORTS, AND OTHER RESOURCE MATERIALS RELATED TO CHILD HEALTH AND WELLNESS. SEVERAL OF THE CURRENT AND PRIOR AAP STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FALL WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILD HEALTH AND WELLNESS: EARLY BRAIN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT, FOSTER CARE, MEDICAL HOME, EPIGENETICS, BRIGHT FUTURES, HEAD START, OBESITY, AND MENTAL HEALTH.
MARKETING & PUBLICATIONS - THE AAP DEVELOPS, MARKETS, DESIGNS AND PUBLISHES OVER 500 BOOKS, MANUALS, BROCHURES, AND OTHER MEDICAL PUBLICATIONS FOR USE BY PARENTS, HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES ON THE TOPICS OF CHILD AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH.
