The Mawazo Institute is a non-profit research institute based in Nairobi, Kenya. We support the next generation of female thought leaders and scholars in Africa, and get policymakers and the public engaged with their research.

The PhD Scholars Program:This program is the Mawazo Institute's flagship program. It provides grants, mentorship, and training opportunities to women pursuing their PhDs at accredited universities in East Africa.
The Public Engagement and Policy Program:This program gets members of the public and policymakers engaged with the insightful research produced by our grantees and by other talented East African women. We run public events and produce digital media outputs highlighting their work.
The Training and Resources Program:This program helps equip East African women with the research and professional skills they need to succeed in academic careers. In 2019 we began pivoting from in-person trainings to a digital curriculum, which will launch in 2020.
