Organizations Filed Purposes: ReNew's Mission is to reflect God's love for our under-resourced neighbors by collaborating with community leaders and residents to increase affordable home ownership, enrich community life, and grow small businesses (Continued on Schedule O)with the goal of igniting a tipping point toward revitalization.

To increase affordable home ownership in under resourced communities

Matthew Homes - ReNew's goal is to establish 300 homeowners over 15+ years with the purpose of increasing affordable home ownership and family neighborhood engagement. Renew dedicated a significant amount of its time/resources in 2017-18 to develop an operating structure to facilitate an acceleration of its business plan over the next 1-3 years, including property acquisition, construction, developing community relationships, etc. ReNew facilitated the purchase and completion of two Matthew Homes in 2017-18, bringing the total number of Matthew Homes to seven. The Matthew Home team has developed a close working relationship with the City of North Chicago staff, local contractors and third-party housing organizations which is improving our access to viable properties. We are currently working on 9 properties (7 rehab and 2 new). The 2 new 3-bedroom, affordable home prototypes were designed by the ReNew team. They have a full basement with escape windows, 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a 2-car garage.

Community Engagement - ReNew is working to build a sense of collaboration and community. ReNew has collaborated with the city, park district, schools, local non-profits, churches, local businesses, the chamber of commerce for projects including painting hallways in city hall, creating murals for kids in after-school programs, assisting an elderly couple with a flooded basement, sharing housing resources with other non-profits, networking breakfast with local leaders, lots of volunteer hours, building a gazebo in the park, clearing trees to open a view to Lake Michigan, and hosting a community picnic at the local park.

Business and Career Services - ReNew's goal is to help create jobs and develop businesses in North Chicago in three ways: 1) provide consulting to existing businesses 2) attract successful businesses to North Chicago and 3) create career pathways from high school to manufacturing, trade and service industries. ReNew built a team of 15 mentors to assist businesses in four key areas: finance, marketing, human resources and executive level coaching. We had early successes in 2017 with some small businesses which enabled them to improve sales and hire new employees. The team saw similar success in 2018, and continued its networking endeavors and reaching out to businesses in 2019. The team has developed a strong working relationship with the Mayor's office, North Chicago Chamber of Commerce, North Chicago High School leadership and local business leaders. The efforts of the team continue to gain traction as evidenced by increased participation in local business forums.
