FY20 school year began in September 2019 and was scheduled to run through July 2020, including five, seven-week sessions of instruction and a summer session in June and July. Prior to the shutdown of classes and programs in March due to the pandemic, MFA had 350 students in Dance, 180 in private music lessons, 125 in Tumbling, 65 in Karate, 30 in Visual Arts and 24 in Drama. MFA had also completed the following events prior to the shut down: Music -10 in-house music recitals & a Kids Choir performance were held in December; 27 piano students competed in the annual Piano Musicianship Competition in March. Dance 65 Dancers participated in a Modern Dance week with the Winfred Haun & Dancers company culminating in a public performance in October; 200 Dancers performed in Holiday Heroes Save Christmas the annual holiday dance show in December and the Golden Tap Shoe/Golden Jazz Shoe Competition was held in March. Immediately following the state-wide shutdown, MFA core leadership team began working on providing arts education content online to keep students engaged and to sustain our connection with families. MFA created arts education videos that were posted on its site and used Zoom to provide two-way learning. By April, all classes and individual lessons were available to students at no cost via ZOOM. Beginning June 15, under Phase 3 statewide guidelines, MFA opened a small summer program onsite, focusing on dance, tumbling, music and drama. With 182 students enrolled, the onsite classes followed safe protocols for social distancing and wearing masks.
