THE OAK PARK RIVER FOREST INFANT WELFARE SOCIETY IS A DIVERSE MEMBER-DRIVEN ORGANIZATION WITH AN ABIDING COMMITMENT TO ASSURING THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF CHILDREN. THROUGH OUR CHILDREN'S CLINIC THE IWS PROVIDES THE HIGHEST QUALITY MEDICAL, DENTAL AND SOCIAL SERVICES TO THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO AFFORD THE COST OF PRIVATE CARE. THE WORK OF THE SOCIETY IS POWERED BY DEDICATED MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS, A HIGHLY COMPETENT PROFESSIONAL STAFF, GENEROUS DONORS, ENGAGED PARTNERS AND ENLIGHTENED COMMUNITIES WHO SHARE OUR VIEW THAT SUSTAINING THE HEALTH OF OUR CHILDREN IS A CRITICAL INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE.
THE IWS CHILDREN'S CLINIC IS A FULL-SERVICE HEALTH CLINIC, OFFERING INTEGRATED MEDICAL, DENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES TO LOW-INCOME CHILDREN WHO RESIDE IN WEST SUBURBAN COOK COUNTY AND THE CITY OF CHICAGO. ALL OF THE CHILDREN SERVED AT THE CLINIC ARE FROM FAMILIES THAT MEET FEDERAL POVERTY INCOME GUIDELINES. OUR PATIENTS REFLECT THE ETHNIC DIVERSITY OF THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE, INCLUDING 54% HISPANIC, 27% AFRICAN AMERICAN AND 19% OTHER. THEY COME FROM FIFTY WEST COOK COUNTY SUBURBS AND THE WEST SIDE OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO (25% OF OUR PATIENT CENSUS). IN THE PAST FISCAL YEAR, THE CLINIC PROVIDED MEDICAL, DENTAL, AND BEHAVIOR HEALTH SERVICES TO 3,075 CHILDREN IN 7,458 MEDICAL AND DENTAL VISITS. OUR PORTABLE DENTISTRY PROGRAM PROVIDED DENTAL EXAMS, CLEANINGS AND SEALANTS TO 1,599 CHILDREN AT 27 SCHOOLS. NUTRITION PRESENTATIONS WERE PRESENTED TO 4,294 STUDENTS AND PARENTS AT 26 SITES AND 2,595 WERE REACHED AT 40 HEALTH FAIRS.
THE OAK PARK RIVER FOREST INFANT WELFARE SOCIETY PURCHASED OF THE FORMER US BANK BUILDING AT 28 W. MADISON IN OAK PARK THIS JANUARY 2019. THIS IS THE FIRST CAPITAL BUILDING PURCHASE FOR THE 103-YEAR-OLD NONPROFIT, WHICH CURRENTLY OCCUPIES SPACE FOR ITS CHILDREN'S CLINIC AT 320 LAKE STREET. THE 14,250 SQUARE FOOT, 2-STORY BRICK BUILDING IS LOCATED AT THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF MADISON AND HUMPHREY. IT COMES WITH A 38-SPACE ATTACHED PARKING LOT, NINE METERED PARKING SPACES AND ADDITIONAL PARKING ON MADISON. THE BUILDING IS CLOSE TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND JUST ONE MILE FROM THE CURRENT LOCATION OF THE IWS CHILDREN'S CLINIC.
