GOODWILL PROVIDES COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, CASE MANAGEMENT, VOCATIONAL TRAINING, AND SUPPORTIVE FINANCIAL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH BARRIERS. RETAIL SERVICESTHERE'S REALLY NOTHING LIKE GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS. FOR MANY, WE'RE A GREAT RETAIL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE WITH 12 LOCATIONS IN AN 18 COUNTY AREA OFFERING AMAZING VALUE AND HIDDEN TREASURES. FOR OTHERS, WE'RE A CONVENIENT PLACE TO DONATE USED CLOTHING AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS WITH NEARLY 6.9 MILLION POUNDS OF GOODS KEPT OUT OF THE LANDFILLS AND RECYCLED IN 2019. DONATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS, COMPANIES AND ORGANIZATIONS ARE THE FIRST STEP IN PUTTING OUR MISSION INTO MOTION BY GENERATING THE SALES REVENUE NEEDED TO PROVIDE VITAL SKILLS AND TRAINING TO PARTICIPANTS WITH DISABILITIES. GOODWILL IS ALSO A STRONG CORPORATE CITIZEN. IN 2019, GOODWILL GENERATED $1,118,000 IN RETAIL SALES TAX AND PAID EMPLOYEE INCOME TAXES IN THE AMOUNT OF OVER $671,000.
MISSION SERVICESIN 2019, GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS SERVED 26,309 PEOPLE IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS, BUT WITH THE SAME END GOAL - HELPING PEOPLE CREATE OPPORTUNITIES TO ENHANCE THEIR LIVES. GOODWILL'S FINANCIAL SUPPORT PROGRAMS PROVIDED FREE INCOME TAX PREPARATION AND FILING SERVICES TO OVER 3,600 INDIVIDUALS REPRESENTING TAX REFUNDS OF OVER $4 MILLION DOLLARS. OUR "GOODGRADS" ADULT BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAM SERVED 525 PEOPLE PROVIDING BOTH EDUCATION AND CASE MANAGEMENT AND 691 SCHOLARSHIPS TO HELP OFFSET COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY (GED) TEST. GOODWILL'S "LET'S GO TO WORK" PROGRAM GAVE 47 ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO 'EARN WHILE THEY LEARN' IN 9 GOODWILL LOCATIONS WITH THE GOAL OF TRANSITIONING MANY TO THE LOCAL WORK FORCE. GOODWILL'S EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS PLACED 955 PEOPLE IN GOOD JOBS IN THE LOCAL AREA.
