THE FOUNDATION DEVELOPS RESOURCES TO ADVANCE THE SCIENCE AND PRATICE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE TO IMPROVE ANIMAL AND HUMAN HEALTH. DONATIONS HELP SUPPORT CARE FOR ANIMALS IN NEED, VETERINARY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS, RESEARCH, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES.
HELPING VETERINARIANS, HELP ANIMALS BY SUPPORTING THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE TO IMPROVE ANIMAL AND HUMAN HEALTH.
DISASTER RELIEF - THROUGH DISASTER REIMBURSEMENT GRANTS, THE AVMF PROVIDES FUNDS TO VETERINARIANS AND OTHER ALLIED HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS THAT HELP BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER DISASTERS WITH THE TRANSPORT, SHELTER, AND MEDICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMAL VICTIMS. DISASTERS INCLUDE HURRICANES, FLOODS, FIRES, TORNADOES, EARTHQUAKES, AND OTHER EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT PUT ANIMALS IN NEED OF EMERGENCY CARE. THROUGH DISASTER RELIEF GRANTS, THE AVMF PROVIDES FUNDS TO VETERINARIANS AND VETERINARY STUDENTS WHO NEED EMERGENCY RELIEF TO HELP WITH THE COSTS OF HOUSING, FOOD, TRANSPORTATION, AND CLOTHING IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING A DISASTER.
ANIMAL WELFARE - THROUGH THE AVMF VETERINARY CARE CHARITABLE FUND PROGRAM, VETERINARIANS HAVE A SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE WAY TO OFFER CHARITABLE VETERINARY SERVICES TO CLIENTS FACING PERSONAL HARDSHIPS AS WELL AS A MEANS TO SUPPORT INJURED, ABUSED, OR ABANDONED ANIMALS. USING DONATIONS TO THE FUND, VETERINARY HOSPITALS CAN OFFER LOW OR NO-COST SERVICES TO CLIENTS WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE BE FORCED TO SURRENDER OR EUTHANIZE THEIR BELOVED PETS. VETERINARY PRACTICES IN ALL 50 STATES, PUERTO RICO AND GUAM PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM.LED BY THE AVMA AND THE AMERICAN ANIMAL HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION, PARTNERS FOR HEALTHY PETS PROVIDES TOOLS AND RESOURCES THAT HELP COMMUNICATE THE VALUE AND BENEFIT OF PREVENTIVE CARE.
EDUCATION - AVMF PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO OUTSTANDING VETERINARY STUDENTS TO ENSURE THAT FUTURE VETERINARIANS HAVE THE SKILLS AND TRAINING NECESSARY TO TREAT OUR PETS, SAFEGUARD OUR FOOD SUPPLY AND PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED TEN DIFFERENT SCHOLARSHIPS TO 240 STUDENTS IN 2019.THROUGH THE ALL FOR STUDENTS PROGRAM, STUDENT CHAPTERS OF THE AVMA USE THIS FUNDING TO PROVIDE PROGRAMMING IN FOUR KEY AREAS: LEADERSHIP, WELLNESS, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH. IN 2019, STUDENTS MANAGED A TOTAL OF 243 EVENTS FOR 29,000 PARTICIPANTS AT 37 COLLEGES OF VETERINARY MEDICINE.
