Organizations Filed Purposes: TO IMPROVE AND SAVE LIVES THROUGH COMPASSIONATE CARE, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND ADVOCACY FOR ANIMALS.

VETERINARY SERVICES: DURING FISCAL YEAR ENDING 9/30/19, MICHIGAN HUMANE SOCIETY'S VETERINARY SERVICES TEAMS PERFORMED 11,428 SPAY AND NEUTER SURGERIES TO COMBAT ANIMAL OVERPOPULATION. THEY ALSO ADMINISTERED 48,493 VACCINATIONS, WHICH INCLUDED LOW-COST SHOT CLINICS. 8,847 MICROCHIPS WERE IMPLANTED SO THAT OWNERS WOULD BE ABLE TO RETRIEVE LOST PETS. THEY WERE ALSO ABLE TO PROVIDE VETERINARY SERVICES TO ANIMALS WHOSE OWNERS WOULD NOT OTHERWISE BE ABLE TO AFFORD SIMILAR TREATMENT AT FOR-PROFIT ANIMAL CLINICS. THE VETERINARY STAFF WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE CRUELTY INVESTIGATION AND RESCUE DEPARTMENT WHEN MEDICAL TREATMENT OR EXPERT TESTIMONY IS REQUIRED TO SUPPORT PROSECUTIONS.

SHELTERING AND ADOPTION: DURING FISCAL YEAR ENDING 9/30/19, MHS SHELTERED AND PROVIDED HUMANE TREATMENT FOR 11,788 ANIMALS. OF THOSE ANIMALS, 2,212 WERE TRANSFERRED FROM OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, SOME OF THESE BROUGHT IN DIRECTLY BY OUR TRANSPORT TEAM. 8,000 ANIMALS WERE ADOPTED AND AN ADDITIONAL 1,884 WERE PROVIDED A SECOND CHANCE BY EITHER BEING RETURNED TO THEIR OWNERS, TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER ORGANIZATION, OR RETURNED TO THE FIELD. WE EXPANDED OUR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES DEPARTMENT DURING THE YEAR TO PROVIDE ENRICHMENT TO ALL ANIMALS AND BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION FOR ANIMALS AS NEEDED.

CRUELTY INVESTIGATION AND RESCUE: DURING FISCAL YEAR ENDING 9/30/19, THE CRUELTY INVESTIGATION AND RESCUE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO 5,647 ANIMAL CRUELTY COMPLAINTS. THESE COMPLAINTS VARIED FROM ANIMALS THAT HAD NOT BEEN PROVIDED FOOD, WATER, OR SHELTER TO ANIMALS THAT HAD BEEN MALICIOUSLY MAIMED, KILLED, OR FORCED TO PARTICIPATE IN ILLEGAL, EXPLOITATIVE ACTIVITIES LIKE DOG FIGHTING. MHS'S CRUELTY INVESTIGATORS WERE ALSO INVOLVED IN CASES BROUGHT TO MHS BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES SEEKING ASSISTANCE IN SUCCESSFULLY PROSECUTING ANIMAL CRUELTY CASES. THE DEPARTMENT RESCUED 2,852 ANIMALS.
