Organizations Filed Purposes: THE STATE YMCA OF MICHIGAN SHALL PROVIDE PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH, TEENS, AND FAMILIES WHICH PUT JUDEO-CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE TO BUILD HEALTHY SPIRITS, MINDS, AND BODIES. THE STATE YMCA OF MICHIGAN IS A CHARITABLE, COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATION THAT INCLUDES MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN OF ALL AGES, ABILITIES, INCOMES, RACES AND RELIGIONS. WE ARE DEDICATED TO BUILDING STRONG KIDS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES BY PUTTING CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS PROMOTING HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, STRONG VALUES, LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY INTERACTION, AND INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING. ALL PERSONS ARE WELCOME IN OUR YMCA PROGRAMS, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY TO PAY. OUR YMCAS ARE FOUNDED AND LED BY VOLUNTEERS FROM OUR COMMUNITIES WHO SERVE AS MENTORS, COACHES, PROGRAM LEADERS, INSTRUCTORS AND MORE. THE STATE YMCA OF MICHIGAN INCLUDES CAMP HAYO-WENT-HA FOR BOYS, CAMP ARBUTUS HAYO-WENT-HA FOR GIRLS, and YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT.

SERVICE TO YOUTH AND FAMILIES, BUILDING CHARACTER AND CITIZENSHIP.

Hayo-went-ha camps - providing programs which help to develop strong families, youth leadership and international understanding to all people of all ages, income, abilities and religious basis. Summer camps (single gender) - The camps offer two and four week options to boys and girls ages 9 - 17. Working closely with diverse, international camp staff, campers have a full day of programs and activities, which could include swimming lessons, sailing, challenge courses, nature studies, arts and crafts, horseback riding and athletics. In addition to skill development, YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camps strive to instill four basic character values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. these values are the touchstones of all interactions and relationships among employees and campers, and they are take home to families and communities. In 2019, summer camps served close to 985 girls and boys. Camperships, based on family need and valued at more than $211,951 were awarded to at least 149 boys and girls from undeserved families. Outdoor education/retreats - the YMCA outdoor education program served more than 2,900 children from schools throughout northern Michigan. the programs are designed to support the school curriculum, which provides a valuable service to local schools. During the year, more than 1,500 children and adults utilized the camps for weekend retreats and programs. Program Volunteers - Over 2,160 hours were donated by approximately 130 volunteers throughout the year.

Youth in Government - Programs for middle and high school students - teaches the fundamentals of democracy through hands on learning. The YMCA Michigan Youth in government provides students with a unique opportunity to actively participate in a year-long simulation of the legislative process culminating with actual sessions of the House and Senate in which they are the "elected" officials. In the Fall, 32 students, representing 20 of the existing schools/delegations, attended a leadership training event at the camp location to launch the program year and prepare the students to lead their school programs throughout the year. There 875 students attended fall conference. In 2019, more than 103 individuals volunteered to provide expertise in their field, program support and acted as role models for the more than 1,500 students who participated in the YMCA YIG programs.
