Organizations Filed Purposes: THE ORGANIZATION IS KNOWN AS THE LEADER IN THE MOVEMENT AND IS SEEN AS THE "GO TO" EXPERTS ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND SUSTAINABLE REDEVELOPMENT BECAUSE OF ITS KNOWLEDGE AND ITS NETWORK.

POLICY OUR POLICY PROGRAM SUPPORTS INNOVATIVE POLICIES THAT VALUE ALL PEOPLE, AN EXAMPLE BEING OUR WORK FOR A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE FOR DETROIT WHILE REDUCING RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL ENERGY USAGE AND COSTS. IN PURSUIT OF POLICY ACTION THAT BENEFITS ALL, INCLUDING THE MOST VULNERABLE AMONG US, DWEJ COLLABORATES WITH ORGANIZATIONS, COMMISSIONS STUDIES, AND SUPPORTS DEEP COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. NOTEWORTHY ACTIVITIES IN THIS PERIOD INCLUDE DWEJ JOINING THE DETROIT 2030 DISTRICT AS WELL AS ENROLLING OUR LANDLORD, HANNAN CENTER. ADDITIONALLY, WE RECEIVED THE RALPH BUNCHE AWARD FOR OUR WORK FROM THE GREATER DETROIT CHAPTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION. WORKFORCE OUR WORKFORCE PROGRAM IS FOCUSED ON ACHIEVING EQUITABLE EMPLOYMENT, AS WELL AS HEALTHY HOUSING AND NEIGHBORHOODS, ACROSS THE CITY OF DETROIT THROUGH OUR FUTURE BUILD CONSTRUCTION GROUP ACTIVITIES. WITH FUTURE BUILD, DWEJ SUPPORTS THE GROWTH OF THE LOCAL ECONOMY BY HELPING DETROITERS HONE SKILLS IN A GROWING SEGMENT OF THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, GAIN CONFIDENCE, AND MAXIMIZE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY, THE CITY, THE ENVIRONMENT, AND THEIR FAMILIES. THIS YEAR, NEARLY 40 PEOPLE WERE DIRECTLY IMPACTED THROUGH EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. ENGAGEMENT OUR ONGOING ENGAGEMENT WORK IS PRIMARILY FULFILLED THROUGH THE DETROIT ENVIRONMENTAL AGENDA, A COLLABORATION OF 20 LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS LED BY DWEJ. IN ADDITION, OUR ORGANIZATION LED THE ENGAGEMENT OF APPROXIMATELY 7,000 DETROITERS FOR CREATING THE DETROIT SUSTAINABILITY ACTION AGENDA. WE CONTINUED TO FOSTER ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS IN WEST MICHIGAN, COAUTHORING A REPORT ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ISSUES IN GRAND RAPIDS, AND SERVING ORGANIZING ROLES FOR EVENTS LIKE THE CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE RISE UP & DRAWDOWN MICHIGAN, THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN THE STATE TO FOCUS ON COMMUNITY, COLLABORATION, SOLUTIONS, AND ACTION.
