Organizations Filed Purposes:
CEC WORKS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL DETROIT FAMILIES. WORKING WITH DIVERSE STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THE CITY, CEC DEVELOPS CRITICAL RESOURCES AND SYSTEMS-LEVEL SOLUTIONS THAT ADDRESS COMMON CHALLENGES FACED BY DETROIT FAMILIES IN ACCESSING QUALITY EDUCATION.
ACCOMPLISHMENT GOAL LINE: THE GOAL LINE PROGRAM PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION SERVICES AND HIGH-QUALITY AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMMING TO K-8 STUDENTS THAT ATTEND 14 PARTNER PUBLIC CHARTER AND DISTRICT SCHOOLS IN NORTHWEST DETROIT. IN THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR, GOAL LINE SERVED 333 STUDENTS IN ITS AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM AND 660 STUDENTS WITH BUS SERVICE. IN STUDENT SURVEYS, MORE THAN 90 PERCENT OF GOAL LINE STUDENTS FELT SAFE IN THEIR ENRICHMENT CLASS AND FELT THAT AN ADULT AT GOAL LINE CARED ABOUT THEM. MORE THAN 80 PERCENT INDICATED THAT THEY MET NEW KIDS THROUGH GOAL LINE OR LEARNED SOMETHING NEW. GOAL LINE'S PROGRAM ALSO CONTINUED TO HELP RETAIN DETROIT FAMILIES IN LOCAL SCHOOLS. IN A FAMILY SURVEY DURING THE 19-20 SCHOOL YEAR, NEARLY ALL PARENTS WHO SAID THEY CONSIDERED LEAVING DETROIT INDICATED THAT GOAL LINE WAS A FACTOR IN THEIR DECISION TO STAY. MORE THAN HALF OF PARENTS WHOSE CHILDREN NEVER ATTENDED DETROIT SCHOOLS BEFORE 2019-20 STILL INDICATED THAT GOAL LINE PLAYED A ROLE IN CHOOSING A SCHOOL FOR THEIR CHILD(REN).
DETROIT SCHOOLS GUIDE: ESD PRODUCED AN IMPROVED ONLINE DETROIT SCHOOLS GUIDE, A MORE FOCUSED AND ROBUST RESOURCE THAT HELPS PARENTS NAVIGATE DETROIT' EDUCATION SYSTEM. IT CONTAINS KEY INFORMATION ABOUT ALL DISTRICT AND CHARTER SCHOOLS IN THE CITY, AS WELL AS RESOURCES, TIPS, AND GUIDES FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS. RESOURCE TOPICS INCLUDE: GUIDES TO SELECTING SCHOOLS, TIPS FOR PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES, AND COLLEGE AND CAREER RESOURCES. THERE WERE OVER 1,500 NEW VISITORS TO THE WEBSITE WITHIN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF LAUNCHING.
ACCOUNTABILITY: IN THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR, CEC WORKED WITH MANY STAKEHOLDERS TO PLAN FOR THE RELEASE OF SCHOOL GRADES FOR ALL DISTRICT AND CHARTER SCHOOLS LOCATED IN DETROIT. THE SCHOOL RATING SYSTEM FOR DETROIT (SRSD) WOULD ASSESS SCHOOL PERFORMANCE AGAINST NON-ACADEMIC AND ACADEMIC FACTORS, PUTTING SIGNIFICANT EMPHASIS ON HOW MUCH SCHOOLS ARE IMPROVING YEAR OVER YEAR. THE SRSD SYSTEM AND SCHOOL GRADES WILL PROVIDE A MUCH- NEEDED COMPARISON OF ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN DETROIT THAT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN IN OUR CITY. THIS PROGRAM, HOWEVER, DID NOT LAUNCH IN 2020, BUT REMAINS A FOCUS OF THE ORGANIZATION.
