The mission of Michigan Interfaith Power and Light is to involve Michigan faith communities as stewards of the earth by promoting and implementing energy efficiency, renewable energy and other sustainable proactices through education, advocacy and action.
We conducted outreach for utility energy efficiency programs, helping 180 congregations across the lower peninsula reduce their negative environmental impact and become better stewards of Earth with free energy efficient upgrades.
In the run up to the 2020 election, we educated and mobilized supporters around our multi-issue faith values voter guide, supplied over 40 faith leaders with resources on giving sermons about voting our values on climate, and reached over 100,000 potential voters to inform and empower them to participate in the election.
Hope for Creation program established online resource-sharing platforms, hosted monthly virtual events to support congregational green teams, sponsored an interfaith Earth Week service, and laid the groundwork for new initiatives including polystyrene recycling, installing E/V charging stations at houses of worship & creating a network of faithbased community gardens. Michigan Poor People's Campaign organized virtual events of education and advocacy both locally and nationally on behalf of the 140 million low-income and impacted people in this country.
