Organizations Filed Purposes: TO ORGANIZE A DIVERSE LEADERSHIP OF MOTHERS THROUGHOUT MI TO REPRESENT THEIR COLLECTIVE INTEREST.

ADVOCACY: THROUGH ONE-ON-ONE CONVERSATIONS WITH MOMS ACROSS MICHIGAN, MOTHERING JUSTICE VOLUNTEERS HEAR THE ISSUES FACING FAMILIES IN OUR STATE. FROM LACK OF TIME OFF OF WORK TO TAKE CARE OF A SICK FAMILY MEMBER, TO THE NEED FOR AFFORDABLE HEALTH & CHILD CARE, FAMILIES - AND MOTHERS IN PARTICULAR - OFTEN FEEL LIKE THEY ARE FIGHTING AN UPHILL BATTLE ALONE. THROUGH STRATEGIC CAMPAIGN & PROVEN ADVOCACY TACTICS, MOTHERING JUSTICE WILL WORK TO EDUCATE LAW MAKERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT THESE AND OTHER PROBLEMS AS WELL AS OUR PROPOSED SOLUTIONS.CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE OLEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: MOTHERING JUSTICE CONDUCTED A SURVEY OF ACTIVIST MOTHERS. MOTHERING JUSTICE HAS DESIGNED TRAINING PROGRAMS THAT FOCUS ON EQUIPPING MOTHERS FOR LEADERSHIP IN A VARIETY OF WAYS. THERE IS A NEED FOR SPECIFIC TRAINING THAT ADDRESSES THE NEEDS AND STRENGTHS OF MOTHERS. MOTHERING JUSTICE WILL WORK WITH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS TO DESIGN TRAINING PROGRAMS THAT FOCUS ON EQUIPPING MOTHERS FOR LEADERSHIP. TRAINING WILL HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS WITH THE HARD SKILLS, TRAININGS OF ISSUE RESEARCH, FUNDRAISING AND CAMPAIGNING, ALONG WITH MACRO-LEVEL VISIONING AND GOAL DEVELOPMENT TRAININGS.EDUCATION & ENGAGEMENT: MOTHERING JUSTICE WILL LEAD NONPARTISAN VOTER ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES BY IDENTIFYING UNDERREPRESENTED MOTHERS FROM AROUND MICHIGAN AND WORKING TO TURN THEM OUT TO VOTE. MOTHERING JUSTICE WILL PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT CANDIDATES, POLLING LOCATIONS AND TIMES. ADDITIONALLY, OUR VOTER ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM WILL INCLUDE DIRECT CONTACT METHODS ALONG WITH ONLINE MEDIA TACTICS. WE WILL ALSO STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF EVERY MOTHER'S VOTE. IN 2010, MOTHERING JUSTICE CONDUCTED ITS FIRST 'GET OUT THE VOTE' PROGRAM TO IDENTIFIED MOTHERS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDED A DOOR-TO-DOOR CANVASS, PHONE BANKING AND A MAIL CAMPAIGN. VOLUNTEERS WERE ABLE TO WRITE PERSONAL NOTES AFTER HAVING PHONE CALLS WITH MOTHERS ABOUT THEIR ISSUES.FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVISM: ADVOCACY ORGANIZATIONS SUFFER FROM A LACK OF INVOLVEMENT FROM MOTHERS PARTICULARLY BECAUSE THEY OFTEN DO NOT HAVE THE KNOW-HOW OR RESOURCES TO MAKE THEIR MEETINGS AND EVENTS MORE PARENT-FRIENDLY. DESIGNATED SPACE FOR CHILDREN AT ORGANIZATIONAL GATHERINGS IS CRITICAL TO INVOLVING MOTHERS IN ADVOCACY. MOTHERING JUSTICE VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE STIMULATING CHILD-CARE FOR PARTICIPANTS AND EDUCATIONAL FOLLOW-UP TO HELP THE ORGANIZATION TAKE STEPS TO PROMOTE "FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVISM".
