Education. Kettering University prepares students for lives of extraordinary leadership and service by linking transformative experiential learning opportunities to rigorous academic programs in engineering, science, mathematics, and business. Undergraduate Instruction. Delivered 63,461 undergraduate student credit hours of instruction (one student credit hour represents 10 hours of instruction for one student). Awarded 443 baccalaureate degrees in 14 different programs.
Research. Top three projects: (1) MRI: Acquisition of a Fluorescence Microscopy System for Research and Teaching at Kettering University. This award allowed the University to acquire and install a fluorescence microscopy system including a confocal laser scanning microscope. The goal of the project is to support research and education using confocal laser scanning microscopy. The project proposes to investigate the localization and transport of molecules and nanoparticles under various conditions using the instrument to enable high-resolution, three-dimensional imaging of cells on a microscopic scale. The instrument will also be used to teach pre-college and undergraduate students about microscopy. (2) Small Business Development Center 2019. This subaward is issued by the MI-SBDC Lead Center at Grand Valley State University for the performance for a Scope of Work originally awarded to the Prime recipient. GVSU is the prime recipient of the US Small Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Development Center cooperative agreement to establish a statewide network of a State Lead Center and SBDC Regional Centers. The Regional center housed at Kettering develops and maintains a comprehensive small business assistance program that provides consulting, training and research services to promote business start-up, innovation and expansion. Economic impact success in this time frame: 31 new business starts, 160 new jobs, 64 jobs retained, $2,987,171 in capital formation, $6,432,247 in increased sales and 176 training attendees. (3) Small Business Development Center 2018. This subaward is issued by the MI-SBDC Lead Center at Grand Valley State University for the performance for a Scope of Work originally awarded to the Prime recipient. GVSU is the prime recipient of the US Small Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Development Center cooperative agreement to establish a statewide network of a State Lead Center and SBDC Regional Centers. The Regional center housed at Kettering develops and maintains a comprehensive small business assistance program that provides consulting, training and research services to promote business start-up, innovation and expansion. Economic impact success in this time frame: 26 new business starts, 115 new jobs, 244 jobs retained, $12,150,321 in capital formation, $11,798,978 in increased sales and 257 training attendees.
