Empowering people to make healthier and more sustainable choices in the renovation and construction of the places we live
GreenHome Institutes primary service program is to help companies and homeowners qualify for 3rd party Green Building Certification on new construction or renovation of existing buildings for single family and multifamily homes. The certification can be achieved by a variety of paths including: LEED for Homes, Enterprise Green Community Certification, National Green Building Standard, GreenStar Homes Certification, and DOE Home Energy Score. We help people identify the program that is right for them and help them qualify for certification. The goal is to create healthier, more durable homes that save energy and water which reduces the cost of living, makes fewer demands on the power grid, and lowers the impact on the environment. These homes can qualify for Low Income Housing Tax Credits and other tax credits and rebates.
GreenHome Institute also has a service program for education. We produce webinars which are aired nearly weekly. These webinars tap the expertise of professionals who design and build using Green practices. Webinars qualify for continuing education units for the American Institute of Architects, LEED Green Associates, Accredited Professional Building Performance Institute and American Institute of Building Designers. These webinars are then hosted on GHIs YouTube channel and the United States Green Building Councils online education channel. In addition, we train people to qualify as LEED Green Raters, LEED Green Associates, Certified Green Home Professionals, and Home Energy Score Assessors.
Thanks to funding from the Wege Foundation we initiated and are on the second round of the Grand Rapids Green Affordable Housing Program. Our goal is to develop or renovate living spaces that serve the 100% Area Median Income Population, namely veterans, youth, individuals with special needs, those requiring assisted living, and seniors. Some of the services we offer are technical training, plan review, design assistance, energy modeling, marketing, and finding more funding. The goal is the housing can be Green Building Certified when it is completed. We hope to expand this program to other cities.
