Organizations Filed Purposes: The Grand Rapids Red Project is dedicated to improving health, reducing risk and preventing HIV by empowering individuals to make positive changes in their lives and their communities.

HIV programs include prevention and testing supplies. GRRP offers free and confidential rapid HIV testing by qualified counselors at locations throughout Grand Rapids. In 2019, the organization tested 640 individuals for HIV and 150 for hepatitis C. The Clean Works program offers a needle exchange to prevent the spread of HIV and other infections through used needles; access was provided to 782,999 sterile needles in 2019. This program has reduced the spread of HIV by needles from 25% to 10%. 137 people used HIV care services in 2019. This is offered free and includes advocating and coordinating medical care, education and referrals to community resources. Red Project also provides Recovery Coaching and access to treatment and other basic needs for those struggling with substance use.From 2019 GRRP has continued to expand services in Lake, Mason and Oceana, building on the successes in Kent, Allegan, Muskegon and Ottawa counties.

Red Project has been innovators in the state of Michigan in reducing opioid fatality through the use of naloxone rescue kits. Since this programs inception, over 10,000 kits have been issued to community members, resulting in over 1,000 successful overdose reversals. In 2019 Red Project provided technical assistance to numerous organizations across the state; helping them to provide syringe access and overdose prevention based on Red Projects successful model. It is estimated that without Red Projects impact on the Grand Rapids community, there would be 100-200 more deaths every year from opioid overdose.
