THE MISSION OF THE SUSAN MAST ALS FOUNDATION IS TO PROVIDE EXCELLENT SUPPORT TO ALS PATIENTS, FAMILIES AND CAREGIVERS LIVING IN WEST MICHIGAN. OUR SERVICES FOCUS ON ALL AREAS OF NEED FOR THE REGIONAL ALS COMMUNITY, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON RESPITE CARE.
TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO ALS PATIENTS, FAMILIES AND CAREGIVERS IN WEST MICHIGAN TO ENSURE ALL ALS PATIENTS AND FAMILIES HAVE THE MUCH NEEDED SUPPORT, GUIDANCE AND RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO THEM.
RESPITE - CARING FOR A LOVED ONE WITH ALS CAN BE EXHAUSTING. THE SUSAN MAST ALS FOUNDATION RECOGNIZES CAREGIVERS NEEDS ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO PROVIDE CARE FOR THEIR LOVED ONE LIVING WITH ALS. THEREFORE, OUR FOUNDATION ASSITS WITH REIMBURSING ALS FAMILIES EACH MONTH WITH THEIR RESPITE CARE EXPENSES. IN 2019, WE SPENT $52,066.25 ON OUR RESPITE PROGRAM AND RECEIVED $20,000 IN DONATIONS FOR RESPITE.
EQUIPMENT - THE SUSAN MAST ALS FOUNDATION HAS A LOAN LOCKER COMPRISED OF GENTLY USED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT. THE EQUIPMENT IS PRIMARILY DONATED FROM ALS FAMILIES WHO NO LONGER NEED THE EQUIPMENT. IF WE DO NOT HAVE THE EQUIPMENT NEEDED BY THE PATIENT, WE OFTEN PURCHASE THE EQUIPMENT VIA AMAZON AND IT IS DELIVERED TO THE PATIENT'S DOOR. IN 2019, WE SPENT $34,355.85 ON THIS PROGRAM AND RECEIVED $21,103 IN DONATIONS FOR EQUIPMENT AND $78,600 IN DONATED GENTLY USED EQUIPMENT.
MYTURN PROJECT - THE MYTURN PROJECT WAS CREATED IN 2018 TO ASSIST ALS FAMILIES WITH SMALL HOME RE-MODIFICATION PROJECTS SUCH AS RAMPS, WIDENED DOORS OR ZERO ENTRY SHOWERS. IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A MYTURN GRANT, AN ALS FAMILY FILLS OUT THE APPLICATION WITH A DESCRIPTION OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. THE APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED TO THE SUSAN MAST ALS FOUNDATION MYTURN REVIEW COMMITTEE. IF THE APPLICATION IS GRANTED, WE PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE PROJECT. IN 2019, WE ASSISTED 10 ALS FAMILIES TOTALING $19,606.28 AND $10,210 WAS DONATED TO THE MYTURN PROJECT.
