Conservation education and acquisition maintenance and protection of natural resources principally, but not exclusively, in the Township of Grosse Ile.
Newsletters - 400 copies of the The Voyager newsletter is published three times a year with the intention to inform members, Township officials, school officials, other conservancies as to what Conservancy projects are in progress, information on programs to attend, and articles on local flora and fauna. The The newsletter is recognized for its informed, clear writing and information about our accomplishments. Electronic Notification - A notice is sent to members, Township officials, school officials, and local newspapers regarding programs and general Conservancy information updates.
Nature Education - The Conservancy designed, hired and found volunteers to present nature education programs at various local sites. Those programs consisted of a Zoom Earth Day event, a Zoom owl prowl event, conducted an annual high school outdoor photo contest, organized and led 4 outdoor nature walks at the Grosse Ile Airport Nature Preserve and Township Recreation farm.
Grosse Ile Sunrise Park Improvements - Sunrise Park was an abandoned property that was bought by the Grosse Ile Township for $1 from Wayne County. The Township then partnered with the Conservancy to start major improvements which the Conservancy paid for as follows: Plans Approved from the Township to construct an outlook and bathroom that will be handicap accessable. Reconstructed a sewer line and installed a water line for a bathroom that will be built in 2021. Refurbished the kayak slide to allow easy access from the road to the river. Planted new bushes and cleaned up the park.
