Free Legal Clinics in 2019 SWRIC provided 1,888 client appointment in three free legal clinics housed in three locations: Southwest Detroit, Eastside Detroit and Pontiac Michigan. We engaged 35 volunteers who donated more than 2,000 service hours in these clinics.
in 2019 SWIRC provided free and low cost legal services to 87 clients witrh cases in Immigration Courts in Detroit, Boston , Baltimore and New York, as well as cases before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Federal Court of the Eastern District of Michigan, several state of Michigan courts at various state and federal administrative bodies. These services were delivered pro bono or for greatly reduced fees.
In 2018 SWIRC purchased a house from the Detroit Land Bank for the purpose of providing housing to asylum seekers with cases pending in Detroits Immigration Court, as well as office, storage and program space for SEIRCs programs and services. With revenue $50,000 in 2019, renovations began in earnes in transforming a long abandoned structure into usable space
