OUR CHILDRENS YOUTH THEATRE PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO PIVOT TO VIRTUAL CLASSES INCLUDING A WRAP UP ZOOM PERFORMANCE OF SEVERAL SONGS FROM THEIR PRODUCTION. OVER 50 CHILDREN WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE THEIR THEATRE EDUCATION DUE TO THE RESPONSIVENESS OF THE BOARD AND THE YOUTH ON STAGE INSTRUCTORS. FOR DECADES, GROSSE POINTE THEATRES ARTS EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT STUDENTS TO NURTURE THEIR LOVE OF THE PERFORMING ARTS. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE GIVEN TO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS TO PURSUE THE ARTS IN COLLEGE AND TO UNDERCLASSMEN TO ATTEND PERFORMING ARTS SUMMER CAMPS. DESPITE THE PANDEMIC, GROSSE POINTE THEATRE GAVE OUT 6,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS THIS YEAR, FOCUSING SOLELY ON HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS DUE TO THE CANCELLATION OF MOST SUMMER CAMP THEATRE PROGRAMS. AS A 73 YEAR OLD ARTS ORGANIZATION, GPT REACHES OUT TO THE COMMUNITY IN MANY WAYS. SHOW TICKETS ARE DONATED ANNUALLY TO APPROXIMATELY 40 SCHOOLS AND OTHER NONPROFITS TO SUPPORT THEIR FUNDRAISERS. GPT PARTNERED WITH ALTERNATIVES FOR GIRLS DURING ITS PRODUCTION OF MAMMA MIA AND COLLECTED DONATIONS AND MUCH-NEEDED ITEMS FOR THE DETROIT-BASED ORGANIZATION. TOY COLLECTIONS DURING THE PRODUCTION OF ELF, JR. WERE DONATED TO THE KIDS-TALK COUNSELING CENTERS IN DETROIT. OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLABORATION WITH OTHER LOCAL NON- PROFITS ARE NOW A PART OF GPTS CULTURE. AS A COMPONENT OF THE ORGANIZATION'S OPERATIONS, GPT RELIES ON PRIVATE AND PUBLIC CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, INDIVIDUALS, FOUNDATIONS, AND CORPORATIONS.
