THE SOCIETY'S MISSION IS TO ENSURE RESPONSIBLE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS, TO DECREASE THE NUMBER OF ABUSED AND UNWANTED ANIMALS, AND TO CONDUCT COMMUNITY PROGRAMS WHICH PROMOTE QUALITY ANIMAL CARE.
THE ADOPTION PROGRAM THAT IS IN PLACE AT CASCADES HUMANE SOCIETY ("CHS") STRIVES TO SERVE THE JACKSON AREA BY PLACING DOGS, CATS AND OTHER ANIMALS WITHIN THE JACKSON COUNTY AREA INTO QUALIFIED HOMES. DURING YEAR ENDED 6/30/20, CHS ADOPTED MORE THAN 1,200 ANIMALS INTO THEIR FOREVER HOMES. IN ADDITION TO ADOPTIONS, CHS PROVIDES THE COMMUNITY WITH UNIQUE SERVICES. OUR LOW COST SPAY AND NEUTER SERVICES (SNAP) FOR OWNED ANIMALS MEANS PETS ARE BEING STERILIZED THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN OTHERWISE. THIS NOT ONLY PREVENTS UNWANTED LITTERS OF PUPPIES AND KITTENS, BUT IT ALSO KEEPS THE OWNED ANIMAL HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER. OUR FORGOTTEN FELINE PROGRAM (OUR VERSION OF A TNR PROGRAM) ASSISTS KIND-HEARTED PEOPLE CARE FOR THE FREE- ROAMING CATS IN THEIR CARE. WE WILL SPAY AND NEUTER THEIR CATS AS WELL AS GIVE EACH A RABIES SHOT. LASTLY, WE ARE PROUD TO OFFER A PET FOOD PANTRY THAT FEEDS THE PETS OF FAMILIES WHO ARE GOING THROUGH FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS. THIS KEEPS PETS IN THEIR HOMES WHERE THEY BELONG BECAUSE A FAMILY DOES NOT NEED TO MAKE A DIFFICULT DECISION BETWEEN FEEDING THEIR PET AND PAYING THEIR BILLS. DURING YEAR ENDED 6/30/20, CHS SPAYED OR NEUTERED MORE THAN 650 OWNED ANIMALS AND NEARLY 400 CATS THROUGH OUR FORGOTTEN FELINE PROGRAM.
THE SNAP PROGRAM (SPAY AND NEUTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM)IS DESIGNED TO HELP REDUCE THE POPULATION OF UNWANTED ANIMALS IN JACKSON COUNTY. THIS PROGRAM IS SET UP AS A LOW COST ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR JACKSON COUNTY RESIDENTS WHO WANT TO BRING CATS AND DOGS OF ALL SIZES AND GENDER TO HELP CONTROL THE PET POPULATION.
THE PET FOOD PANTRY PROGRAM IS SET UP TO PROVIDE PET FOOD TO JACKSON COUNTY RESIDENTS WHO ARE HAVING DIFFICULTY MEETING THE NUTRITIONAL NEEDS OF THEIR CAT OR DOG DUE TO A CURRENT FINANCIAL BURDEN. FOR ANY JACKSON COUNTY RESIDENT TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PROGRAM, THEY MUST QUALIFY AS LOW INCOME, BE A CURRENT PARTICIPANT IN A STATE/FEDERAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, OR EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP DUE TO THE CURRENT ECONOMIC SITUATION. THIS PROGRAM EXISTS ON DONATIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY, AND THE PET FOOD PANTRY PROGRAM IS INTENDED TO SUPPLEMENT AN ELIGIBLE RESIDENTS MONTHLY SUPPLY OF PET FOOD, AND NOT A SOLE SOURCE OF THEIR PET'S NUTRITIONAL NEEDS.
