Organizations Filed Purposes: COMPASSIONATE MINISTRIES OF JACKSON COUNTY IS A FAITH BASED ORGANIZATION CREATED TO COMPASSIONATELY MEET THE TANGIBLE, EMOTIONAL, AND SPIRITUAL NEEDS OF OUR NEIGHBORS IN JACKSON COUNTY AND BEYOND.

HUNGER: THE AFTER SCHOOL BACK PACK PROGRAM PROVIDED ALMOST 10,000 BAGS OF ESSENTIAL NON-PERISHABLE FOOD TO JACKSON COUNTY ELEMENTARY AGE STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. IN ADDITION, THREE IN-SCHOOL PANTRIES WERE SUPLLIED FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL AGE STUDENTS. FROM THE ONSET OF THE STAY HOME ORDERS BROUGHT ON BY COVID-19, CMJC PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 1,400 BAGS PER WEEK FOR SCHOOL KIDS AND FAMILIES. THE JAXNAZ FOOD PANTRY PROVIDES GROCERIES AND A HOT MEAL TWO SATURDAYS EACH MONTH TO 250-300 FAMILIES. COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRIES (14 SUPPORTED BY CMJC AND STAFFED BY LOCAL CHURCH PARTNERS) PROVIDE FOOD TO NEARLY 500 FAMILIES ON THE FOURTH SATURDAY OF EVERY MONTH. CMJC PARTNERS WITH THE FOOD BANK OF SOUTH MI TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL GOVERNMENT PROGRAM (FEMA) FOOD THROUGH THE PANTRIES AND AT FRESH FOOD DISTRIBUTION ONCE PER MONTH. CMJC HOSTS A FREE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING MEAL FOR OVER 500 COMMUNITY MEMBERS, HOSPICE PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES, AND FIRST RESPONDERS. BASKETS WITH A COMPLETE, READY-TO- PREPARE THANKSGIVING MEAL WERE PROVIDED TO THE FAMILIES OF OVER 330 SCHOOL KIDS IN THE COUNTY.

SPECIAL NEEDS: DAVID'S PROMISE IS THE KEY MINISTRY SERVING PRIMARILY ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. APPROXIMATELY 40 INDIVIDUALS (AND THEIR FAMILIES) PARTICIPATE IN THE DAYTIME PROGRAMS OF DP EXPERIENCING FELLOWSHIP AND TALENT DISCOVERY WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE MEANINGFUL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY. JOINT PROGRAMS WITH SENIOR HOMES, CENTERPIECE CREATIONS FOR COMMUNITY HOLIDAY MEALS, PLANTING/CARING FOR/HARVESTING A GARDEN AND MUSIC THERAPY ARE SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES FOR PARTICIPANTS. A COFFEE BAR AND RETAIL ADAPTABLE SPACE HAVE ALSO BEEN CREATED TO PROVIDE JOB SKILLS TRAINING RESOURCES. ALTERNATIVE MEETING METHODS SUCH AS ZOOM WERE USED DURING COVID-19 STAY AT HOME ORDERS TO FACILITATE A BOOK CLUB AND ONGOING MUSIC FELLOWSHIP.

COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION: THE CORNERSTONE OF THIS MINISTRY IS LEAD BY A FORMER CORRECTIONS DEPARTMENT PROFESSIONAL WITH A DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY. THE LEADER IS ALSO A CERTIFIED TRAINER IN NON-VIOLENT COMMUNICATION (NVC) AND CONDUCTS WORKSHOPS ON HOW TO IMPROVE INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS AND AVOID CONFLICT SITUATIONS. NVC PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN DELIVERED TO LOCAL SCHOOLS AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THAT ASSIST TEENS TO DEAL WITH ADVERSE CIRCUMSTANCES AND EXPERIENCES. THE GARDEN ALSO PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMUNITY TO SHARE BY TENDING TO AND HARVESTING PRODUCE THAT IS USED IN THE DAVID'S PROMISE PROGRAM AND MADE AVAILABLE FOR GUESTS AT THE FOOD PANTRIES. THE CMJC CENTER (AKA THE TABLE) IS A MEETING PLACE FOR WORKSHOPS AND COMMUNITY GATHERINGS.
