Organizations Filed Purposes: SHALOM provides residential, family homes to adults with developmental disabilities and their loving care-provider families. Through the love and wholeness of Jesus Christ, we provide travel, worship, camps, recreation, social and work opportunities that enrich the lives of more than 40 residents and dozens from the community.

SHALOM provided residential extended-family homes for over 40 residents and their care-provider families including state-licensed Adult Foster Care and independent supported living for men and women. These Christ- centered homes provide encouragement, love and structure. Residents become part of the Shalom community which allows them to participate in many social and support opportunities.

SHALOM provided a summer trip experience for 27 adults with disabilities in partnership with 15 community chaperones and staff. This day trip to Shipshewana, Indiana involved the fun and fellowship of shopping the flea market, lunch and dinner at local restaurants, round trip transportation and a concert at the Blue Gate Theater. Another outing included a day at Warner Camp in Grand Junction, Michigan. Participants enjoyed the lake, team-building activities, and meals at the camp cafeteria. Participants, staff and volunteers enjoyed a bonfire to end the day before the trip home. Baseball was the order of the day as we attended a Kalamazoo Growlers' semi-professional baseball game to wrap up the summer. These were outings in addition to the weekly outings to the local YMCA to enjoy the swimming pool and our monthly worship services, group dinners and bonfires.

Each week, over 40 individuals productively participate in our Farm, Woolery and Thrift Store operations. Woolery participants work together in teams to skirt and wash wool, run several machines, weave on looms and make dryer balls, cat toys, banners and other products in a supportive and safe atmosphere. Farm participants work with sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens and alpaca while experiencing gardening and other year-round projects(gathering eggs and caring for rabbits). Participants have major roles showing goats and rabbits at community events to hundreds of local families at the annual Farm Open House. Each Spring, they collect maple sap and make delicious syrup. Each Fall, they gather and process grapes for jam and juice. Participants work alongside community volunteers in our Thrift Store and at art shows and assist in the cleaning, processing and sale of donated items. These activities are made possible through our nine full and part-time staff/coaches and more than 50 regular volunteers.
