Organizations Filed Purposes: Supplemental food for low inocme families, infants and senior citizens

CCN maintains a stationary Food Pantry at the William and Janet Strickler Non-Profit Center, 1114 W High Street, Mt Pleasant, MI. CCN is supported financialy by community organizations, local churches and individual donors. The food is purchased and delivered through the Greater Lansing Food Bank, located in Lansing, MI, a division of Feeding America. Each week 250-280 families receive 30-50 pounds of fresh produce, dairy, eggs, beef, pork, poultry and fish. This basket is rounded out with staples such as pasta, breakfast cereal, canned fruits and vegatables, peanut butter and baked goods. Each family may visit The Pantry every two weeks.

The Infant Pantry is providing low income families with babies and toddlers with supplemental formula, baby food, diapers, wipes and toddler foods.

Nutrition Club is provided in conjunction with eleven elementary schools in Isabella County. The bags of week-end foods go home with children that qualify for the Federal Lunch Program. Twice per month, bags are packed in advance by volunteers with the items pruchased from greater Lansing Food Bank in Lansing, MI. The supplemental food is then delivered to the various schools and handed out by the classroom teacher. These Nutrition Club bags contain single serve items and foods that can be easilly prepared by young children who might be left to manage their week-end meals themselves. In preparation for longer school vacation breaks, the bags are often packed with full jars of peanut butter and entire loafs of bread in addition to the usual items. Each bag costs just over $2.50 and 600-625 students are being served twice monthly in Isabella County.
