Organizations Filed Purposes: NORTE IS DEDICATED TO BUILDING A STRONGER, BETTER CONNECTED AND MORE BIKE- FRIENDLY TRAVERSE CITY BY INSPIRING YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH BICYCLES.

ESTRELLAS NORTES ESTRELLAS BALANCE BIKE PROGRAM EXPOSED MORE THAN 625 KIDS TO THE EXCITEMENT, JOY, AND FEELING OF ACCOMPLISHMENT OF BALANCING ON A 2-WHEELER IN 18 SCHOOLS. 2019 SAW MORE KIDS ON BIKES THANKS TO NORTES SUMMERTIME TWICE-WEEKLY BALANCE BIKE SESSIONS AT OUR CLUBHOUSE AND GROUP FIELD TRIPS. THESE 3 TO 5 YEAR OLDS LEARN HOW TO BALANCE ON 2 WHEELS, GAIN SELF- CONFIDENCE, AND LEARN HOW TO ACHIEVE GOALS AS A GROUP. THE BIKE MS PROJECT THE BIKE MS PROJECT BRINGS THE ADVENTURE AND LEARNING TO THE STUDENTS BY MEETING AT THEIR SCHOOLS AND EXPLORING THEIR LOCAL STREETS, PARKS AND NEIGHBORHOODS. STUDENTS RANGING FROM 4TH TO 7TH GRADE MEET THEIR BIKE MS COACH IMMEDIATELY AFTER SCHOOL DISMISSAL, MAKE A PLAN FOR THE DAYS RIDE, AND DISCUSS THE RULES OF THE ROAD THAT WILL BE THE DAYS OBJECTIVES. 85 STUDENTS HEAD OUT FROM 11 DIFFERENT SCHOOLS IN SMALL TEAMS OF 5 PLUS A COACH AND A VOLUNTEER TO EXPLORE THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS FOR 90 MINUTES, STOPPING AT PLAYGROUNDS, BEACHES, PARKS, AND SUPPORTING BUSINESSES AND ORGANIZATIONS. IT IS TRULY ON-THE-BIKE LEARNING. TRAVERSE CITY SUMMER BIKE CAMP 274 1ST-8TH GRADE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN SUMMER BIKE CAMP TO RIDE BIKES WITH FRIENDS, FIND ADVENTURE ALL OVER THE TRAVERSE CITY AREA, AND LEARN WHERE THE BICYCLE CAN TAKE THEM WHILE PRACTICING SMART BIKING HABITS. IN 2019, 53 CHILDREN FROM OUTSIDE OF TRAVERSE CITY JOINED NORTES SUMMER BIKE CAMP, SOME FROM AS FAR AWAY AS NEW YORK AND IDAHO. THROUGHOUT THIS PROGRAM, CAMPERS GAIN SELF- CONFIDENCE BY RIDING BIKES ALL MORNING, AS WELL AS AN INCREASE IN INDEPENDENCE BY SOLVING PROBLEMS AND WORKING TOGETHER WITH PEERS. GRAND TRAVERSE REGION YOUTH MOUNTAIN BIKE TEAM THE NORTE YOUTH MOUNTAIN BIKE TEAM IS MADE UP OF NEARLY 200, 1ST THROUGH 12TH GRADE STUDENTS, REPRESENTING 23 AREA SCHOOLS. THANKS TO THE HARD WORK OF 32 PAID COACHES AND 153 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACHING, THE TEAM NOT ONLY GOT FAST, BUT THE KIDS BECAME MORE CONFIDENT RIDERS WHO ARE MORE LIKELY TO BECOME SMART, LIFE-LONG CYCLISTS. THE SOLUTION BIKE MECHANICS CLASS THE SOLUTION IS NORTES HANDS-ON BIKE MECHANICS CLASS SERIES FOR STUDENTS AND ADULTS HELD AT THE NORTE WHEELHOUSE. IN 2019, 150 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN CLASSES THAT COVERED BASIC BICYCLE ANATOMY, FLAT TIRE REPAIR, CHAIN MAINTENANCE, AS WELL AS DERAILLEUR ADJUSTMENTS. THE SUCCESS OF THIS HANDS- ON CURRICULUM LEAD TO AN IN-SCHOOL BIKE MECHANICS PILOT PROGRAM FOR 13, 6TH AND 7TH GRADE STUDENTS. EXPLORE ACADEMY THE EXPLORE ACADEMY IS A SIX-WEEK PRACTICAL COURSE IN NEIGHBORHOOD DESIGN GEARED TOWARDS INTRODUCING TEENS TO PERSUASIVE CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT. 26 STUDENTS, AGES 13-17, SIGNED UP FOR THE FIRST YEAR OFFERING IN 2019. THE MEET-UPS WERE HELD EVERY SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR 90 MINUTES AND ATTENDANCE WAS CONSISTENTLY 85%-90%. THIS PROGRAM IS FOR STUDENTS WHO LEARN BEST WHEN THEYRE HANDS-ON, OUT IN THE WORLD AND HAVING FUN. STUDENTS FINISHED WITH ADVANCED PARTICIPATORY OBSERVATIONAL SKILLS, AN INFORMED PASSION FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND THE ABILITY TO APPLY THEIR INSIGHTS AS CITIZEN ADVOCATES FOR HAPPY, HEALTHY, STRONG COMMUNITIES. ADVOCATE ACADEMY HE ADVOCATE ACADEMY IS AN IN-DEPTH INTRODUCTION TO PLACE-BASED ADVOCACY. THE CURRICULUM EMPOWERS PARTICIPANTS TO FIND AND APPLY THEIR VOICE TO POSITIVE CHANGE. A COMBINED TOTAL OF 12 PARTICIPANTS HAVE GONE THROUGH THE PROGRAM IN 2019. THESE ARE THE LEADERS BUILDING STRONGER, BETTER CONNECTED, AND ENJOYABLE NEIGHBORHOODS AND COMMUNITIES IN THE GRAND TRAVERSE REGION. GRADUATES END THE COURSE AS KNOWLEDGEABLE, CONFIDENT, AND CAPABLE LEADERS.
