Black Male Educators Alliance of Michigan (BMEA) is a collective of educators, mentors, community leaders, and other professionals who partner to increase the number of effective black male educators to improve the educational experiences for urban children. Our Mission is to partner with educational agencies at the local, state and national level to advocate for the support of Recruiting black men into education, Retaining black male educators, and Developing leaders to improve the education of urban youth. We are a group of practitioners invested in the dismantling of institutional impediments to diversity in the educational profession.

BMEA's Focus Areas: Policy: BMEA will work closely with educational policy makers in Detroit and the Michigan Department of Education to bring awareness and to advocate for change or support in all policy areas that greatly impact students and staff. Mentoring: BMEA will mentor young black male students at the middle and high school level. The mentoring program will focus on academic excellence, responsibility to community, social justice and the importance of education. Recruiting: BMEA is committed to recruiting top high school black male talent into colleges of education, and to recruiting the top professionals into teaching. Instructional Leadership & Training: BMEA will host various workshops to train educators on Deeper Learning, Culturally Relevant Education, Restorative Practices, and other best practices in the classroom.
