DOMESTIC PROGRAMMINGHALO LEARNING CENTERSTHE HALO LEARNING CENTERS ARE SAFE HAVENS OF HEALING AND HOPE FOR HOMELESS AND AT-RISK YOUTH. THROUGH THERAPEUTIC ART PROGRAMS, TUTORING, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, SCHOLARSHIPS AND HELP PREPARING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION, OUR KIDS WORK HARD TO LEAVE THE "AT-RISK" LABEL BEHIND AND FINALLY BE SEEN AS A GREAT KID WITH THE POTENTIAL TO DO GREAT THINGS. PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED YEAR ROUND, MULTIPLE TIMES A WEEK, WITH A FUTURE FOCUSED CURRICULUM TO EQUIP OUR YOUTH WITH LIFE SKILLS TO PROMOTE HEALING AND HELP THEM TO LEARN INDEPENDENTLY IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. ALL PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED AND TAUGHT BY HALO CENTER STAFF AS WELL AS KNOWLEDGEABLE VOLUNTEERS COMMITTED TO EMPOWERING HALO YOUTH. HALO DELIVERS FREE PROGRAMMING AND SERVICES TO AWARDED PROGRAM RECIPIENTS ON AN ANNUAL BASIS TO HELP PROVIDE THE FULL CIRCLE OF CARE FOR YOUTH IN THE GREATEST NEED. OUR 2019 PROGRAM RECIPIENTS INCLUDE:KANSAS CITY: RESTART INC. FAIRFAX LEARNING CENTER SALVATION ARMY CHILDREN'S SHELTER HILLCREST HOPE CORNERSTONES OF CARE NEWHOUSEJEFFERSON CITY: MISSOURI RIVER REGIONAL LIBRARY RACS: RAPE ABUSE AND CRISIS CENTER JEFFERSON CITY ACADEMIC CENTER JEFFERSON CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT THE KANSAS CITY LEARNING CENTER OPENED IN 2011. IN 2019, THE KC CENTER SERVED 593 YOUTH, FACILITATED, 160 PROGRAMS, AND SERVED HEALTHY SNACKS OR FULL MEALS AT EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM. PROVIDING OVER 1,500 MEALS TO CHILDREN IN NEED. THE JEFFERSON CITY LEARNING CENTER WAS OPENED IN 2012. IN 2019, LEARNING CENTER STAFF SERVED 50+ HOMELESS AND AT-RISK YOUTH THROUGH WORKSHOPS, PROGRAMS AND MEETINGS. THE LEARNING CENTER PROVIDED SNACKS OR FULL MEALS AT EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM.

HALO HOUSING/TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM -THE HALO TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM (TLP) IS AN 18 MONTH-LONG PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FREE HOUSING FOR PREGNANT, PARENTING, AND NON-PARENTING YOUTH AGES 16-21 YEARS OLD AND THEIR DEPENDENTS, WHO ARE IN HOMELESS OR HIGH-RISK SITUATIONS. THE GOAL OF THE HALO TLP IS TO HELP YOUTH EXIT "CRISIS MODE," SET LONG-TERM GOALS FOR THEMSELVES, AND LEARN TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES CHILDREN OF PARENTING TEENS A SAFE AND STABLE LIVING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSISTANCE IN SECURING DAYCARE. YOUTH IN THE PROGRAM ARE REQUIRED TO BE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL AND SEEK AND OBTAIN PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT WHILE THEY ARE IN SCHOOL. YOUTH WHO HAVE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL MUST EITHER OBTAIN FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT OR START COLLEGE CLASSES. YOUTH ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN LIFE-SKILLS WORKSHOPS, WHICH ARE AIMED AT TEACHING THEM HOW TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. PARENTING YOUTH ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE WEEKLY PARENTING CLASSES. HALO STAFF WORK WITH YOUTH ON 7 MAIN FOCUS AREAS: EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT, FINANCIAL, PARENTING, HEALTH, SPIRITUAL, AND TRANSPORTATION. EACH YOUTH MEETS WEEKLY WITH HALO STAFF TO WORK ON THEIR GOALS AND ASSESS THEIR PROGRESS THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM.THE KANSAS CITY HALO TLP SERVED 3 YOUTH AND COMPLETED THE PILOT PROGRAM IN AUGUST OF 2019.THE JEFFERSON CITY HALO TLP PROVIDED HOUSING FOR 51 HOMELESS YOUTH, OFFERED 387 RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES, AND FACILITATED 52 SUNDAY DINNERS AND LIFE SKILLS THROUGHOUT 2019. HALO ASSURES THAT ALL PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND MEDICAL HEALTH NEEDS ARE BEING MET FOR EACH YOUTH.HALO MAKERS PROGRAM: HALO MAKERS IS AN EMPLOYMENT READINESS PROGRAM BUILT INTO THE HALO HOUSING PROGRAM AND HALO LEARNING CENTERS THAT BEGAN IN 2018. HALO YOUTH LEARN VALUABLE LIFE SKILLS BY PARTICIPATING IN A WOODWORKING PROCESS TO MAKE AND SELL PRODUCTS TO HELP SUPPORT THEIR FUTURE. IN 2019 THE FOCUS WAS ON CREATING RECLAIMED WOOD SERVING TRAYS, WHILE COLLABORATING WITH WOODWORKING AND DESIGN PROFESSIONALS. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS TO YOUTH STRUGGLING WITH HOMELESSNESS AND OTHER LIFE ISSUES. HALF OF THE PROCEEDS FROM EACH TRAY THAT IS SOLD GOES INTO A HALO FUTURE FUND, WHICH IS A SAVINGS FOR YOUTH UPON EXIT OF THE HALO PROGRAM TO SUPPORT THEIR HOUSING, TRANSPORTATION OR EDUCATION. THE OTHER HALF OF THE FUNDS GOES BACK TO SUPPORT THE HALO MAKER PROGRAM FOR THE PURCHASE OF SUPPLIES TO CONTINUE THE PROGRAM. JC HALO BOYS PROGRAM LAUNCHED IN 2019. THE HALO BOYS PROGRAM IS A PLACE OF HEALING AND HOPE THAT PUTS AT RISK AND HOMELESS TEEN BOYS ON A PATH TO A POSITIVE FUTURE. THROUGH TUTORING, MENTORSHIP, CONNECTING WITH MALE ROLE MODELS, LIFE SKILLS, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES, THESE BOYS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO DO GREAT THINGS IN OUR COMMUNITY. A HOME WAS PURCHASED IN 2019, SURROUNDED BY 6 ACRES, TO SERVE MALE TEENS, DURING AFTER SCHOOL HOURS. IN 2019, 15 BOYS WERE IDENTIFIED WITH A GOAL TO EXPAND TO 20 IN 2020.
