Saint Louis Ballet is dedicated to providing the St. Louis region with a full season of highly artistic productions and quality education programs.
Saint Louis Ballet presents four (4) performing series a year - Fall full-length series in October or November such as "Giselle", "Swan Lake", "Cinderella", or "Coppelia" in April at the 1,600 seat Touhill Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Missouri in St. Louis. In addition, in the spring of 2018 the organization added a new contemporary series at The Grandel Theatre in St. Louis. The organization has been dedicated to advancing the art of ballet in St. Louis for nearly 40 years. Since 2001, the organization has been led by Gen Horiuchi, former Principal Dancer of New York City Ballet. Saint Louis Ballet serves over 16,000 patrons per year. In the past five years, Saint Louis Ballet's ticket sales have increased by 46 percent in total. Our subscription revenue has more than doubled during this time period, demonstrating the community's commitment and interest in the company's performances. Saint Louis Ballet personalizes a performance series for presenters outside of St. Louis for their audiences and their artistic experiences. SLB arranges one-day visits to a community for an opportunity of classical and contemporary ballets and also offers a residency program including a master class and lecture demonstration upon requests. SLB toured to Eastern Illinois University and also performed at College of Pharmacy, St. Louis in 2018, and performed at Franklin County Arts in Brooksville, Indiana, and Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO in December 2019.
Recognizing that the art of ballet should be accessible to all interested families regardless of their financial or geographic circumstances, Saint Louis Ballet launched Pointe to Succeed in 2016. Pointe to Succeed serves students at schools in resource-challenged communities. Many of the students Saint Louis Ballet works with come from challenging situations and receive careful, nurturing mentoring while in the program. Additionally, Saint Louis Ballet is committed to providing long-term experiences, offering scholarships to students who are interested in pursuing further training when the program at their school concludes. Foundational principles and activities of the program include connecting and mentoring, live performance experience, and talent development. Students are given the opportunity to participate in storytelling, interactive seminars, and experiential activities at their schools. The program includes funds to transport the students to the Touhill Performing Arts Center and tickets to attend Saint Louis Ballet productions. Students are given an introduction in theater etiquette and learn how to follow a story ballet. Post-performance backstage tours provide a look at set design, costumes, lighting, special effects, and give students another opportunity to interact with the performers, stage technicians and the Artistic Director. Saint Louis Ballet dancers teach after-school classes to students for six to ten weeks following the live performance. Interested students may continue their training at the Saint Louis Ballet School.
